Details of Valve’s next big game appear to have leaked, which is described as a blend between Dota 2, Overwatch and BioShock Infinite.
Valve’s software output has been sporadic at best over the past decade, to the dismay of many still hoping for a new Portal or Left 4 Dead, but the developer’s next major title seems to be gearing up for release.
Over the past few years, the developer has released titles like Half-Life: Alyx and Counter-Strike 2, as well as its handheld Steam Deck device – which has inspired a host of copycats.
It seems the studio’s next game could be announced soon though, with various leakers sharing alleged details and screenshots from the alpha of what is apparently called Deadlock.
According to content creator Gabe Follower, who is known for leaking Valve related news, Deadlock is a competitive 6v6 third person hero-based shooter where players battle on ‘huge maps with four lanes’. It was apparently previously known as Neon Prime, which was trademarked by Valve back in 2022.
Along with usable abilities and items, they also describe Deadlock as having Tower Defense mechanics, a ‘fantasy setting mixed with steampunk’, and fast travel using floating rails ‘similar to BioShock Infinite’.
In terms of gameplay, the leaker claims it is a fast-paced ‘combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, and Orcs Must Die’. The hero designs are said to be inspired by the Dota universe, while the maps draw influence from modern European cities.
A number of screenshots have since circulated online, which Gabe Follower claims are genuinely from Deadlock. One image shows an archer named Grey Talon, who is described as a ‘cunning predator’ who ‘delivers long range skill-shots’.
While there’s no word on when this could be released, YouTuber Tyler McVicker, who is also known for reporting on Valve news, claims Deadlock is in the closed alpha stage and ‘hundreds’ of people have access – including Valve employees and competitive YouTubers who have apparently signed a non-disclosure agreement.

If Valve is publicly testing it, that suggests an announcement for Deadlock could be on the near horizon – with the obvious assumption being around Summer Game Fest next month.
While Valve has a proud history of making great multiplayer shooters, the screenshots are very underwhelming, hinting at a shooter that looks worryingly generic in terms of both visuals and gameplay – even if there is perhaps a gap in the market for another major hero shooter, as Overwatch 2 flounders in popularity.
