The Roast of Tom Brady has topped Netflix’s most-watched list for the past week with a huge 13.8 million views, but its success has been marred by backlash.

Vaulting into pole position after debuting at number six the previous week, this former Netflix live event is hosted by Kevin Hart and sees sports figures and comics teamed up to ‘roast’ former NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

The result was several newsworthy moments – including a joke about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft that appeared to cross the line, and Kim Kardashian receiving a rather shaky reception to her roast.

The reality star was booed by the crowd as she took to the stage, prompting the streaming service to make the decision to edit the live stream, so that the version now available doesn’t feature any booing.

However, the show’s most awkward moment came when Brady interrupted Jeff Ross’ reference to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s massage parlour scandal.

Brady was overheard telling Ross: ‘Don’t say that sh** again.’

Tom Brady has since confessed that he wouldn’t do another Netflix roast.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said that while he ‘loved when the jokes were about me’, the roast had affected ‘the people that I care about the most in the world.’

However, the surrounding controversy hasn’t deterred viewers, with a mighty 13.8 million watching the three-hour long special in the past week.

It is the first TV show to knock Baby Reindeer off the top spot, which now sits in second place with 11.4 million views in one week.

The wildly popular miniseries stars Richard Gadd as struggling comedian Donny, whose one act of kindness leads to a traumatic ordeal with a prolific stalker.

It’s an alarming true story and sees Gadd playing out his own experiences with a stalker to disturbing effect.

A Man in Full – the drama about an Atlanta businessman facing bankruptcy – comes in third with 6.7 million views in the past week.

Elsewhere, seasons one and two of Bridgerton have returned to Netflix’s top ten in the wake of the hotly anticipated third season, which landed on Netflix last week.

Viewers can’t get enough of the steamy period drama, which this season sees younger Bridgerton Francesca hope to marry, while Nicola Coughlan’s character Penelope also takes centre stage.

The two series saw a combined 3.1 million views last week, and no doubt we’ll be seeing season three make an appearance in Netflix’s top ten very soon.

The Roast of Tom Brady is available to stream on Netflix now.
