Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning makes feelings on Piers Morgan’s ‘real Martha interview’ crystal clear-Adam Miller-Entertainment – Metro
Jessica Gunning refuses to watch the ‘real Martha’s’ interview with Piers Morgan (Piers Morgan Uncensored / Netflix)
Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning has responded to Piers Morgan’s controversial interview with the woman claiming to be the ‘real Martha’, Fiona Harvey.
For his YouTube series Uncensored, the former Good Morning Britain host, 59, bagged the first televised interview with Harvey after Baby Reindeer viewers ‘identified’ her as the inspiration behind Richard Gadd’s hit Netflix series.
Baby Reindeer claims to be a true story based on Gadd’s experience with a stalker, following Donny Dodd (played by Gadd) who is hounded by Martha (Gunning).
Throughout the course of seven episodes, Martha infiltrates every corner of Gadd’s life, making his life miserable until she is finally sentenced.
Baby Reindeer was streamed over 60million times in its first month, and subsequently it wasn’t long before internet sleuths trawled social media trying to identify the real people behind the characters in the show.
Gadd urged viewers not to track them down, stressing it ‘misses the point’ of the series.

In a matter of days though, Harvey’s tweets to Gadd spread like wildfire on X and she chose to give her side of the story on Morgan’s YouTube channel.
For Gunning though, she has absolutely no interest in watching the tell-all, which was branded ‘exploitative’ by critics.
‘Me and Richard have this close connection and I’m very concerned about anything that might upset him,’ she told Radio Times.
‘He’s a survivor of sexual assault, and he was stalked, and I think that any search for real people almost undermines that slightly.
‘He said in the past that he didn’t want any internet sleuths to go out and try and find the identities of these real people. He deliberately changed identities for a reason. But of course, in this day and age, it’s inevitable, especially with a show this big, that people are intrigued by who the real people are.’

During her interview with Morgan, Harvey blasted Baby Reindeer, calling it ‘a work of fiction, a work of hyperbole’, and said: ‘I wanted to rebut that completely on this show – I am not a stalker, I have not been to jail, I’ve not got injunctions – it is complete nonsense.’
She later said she felt ‘set up’ by Morgan and claimed she was paid just £250 for the interview which has racked up 12million views for the Uncensored YouTube channel.
Morgan said of the interview to Lorraine Kelly: ‘She has a right to have her say and was happy to come on the show, I tried to be very fair and balanced and tried to get to the truth.

‘I think she lied in the interview but is she a convicted stalker?
‘The key point is, if she isn’t, then the Netflix claim at the start of every episode saying ‘this is a true story’ becomes problematic.
‘Have they defamed her? If you accuse someone of being a convicted stalker and they are not, that is a pretty serious claim to make.
‘I think they’ve got problems here because she clearly is determined to have her day in court with Netflix.’
Harvey has said she is taking legal action against Netflix and Gadd.
