Eminem has caused a stir online after sharing a cryptic message fans believe is related to the release of his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady.
The 51-year-old rapper—real name Marshall Mathers—revealed last month that he will be releasing his 12th studio album this year. While details about the exact release date have been kept tightly under wraps, fans think they’ve spotted a clue.
Taking to Instagram in the early hours of this morning, the rapper shared a screenshot of a text message addressed to ‘All Contacts’ reading ‘…and for my last trick!’ However, the timestamp has caught the attention of his devoted fanbase.
The text message, dated Friday, May 31, 12:00 a.m., appears to be a clue for when the 15-time Grammy winner will release either a single from the album, or perhaps the entire catalogue.
Fans were quick to flood the comment section with their theories; @sirhottest wrote: ‘Are you saying we’re getting music next Friday’?, while @youngjody wrote: ‘A new track on the way..’
A third fan, @shady.ind, commented ‘Album date’ while @jessicakubacki said: ‘The generation who listens to you does not have that level of patience 😂😂 DROP ITTTT’

@shotbyraf added, ‘Album dropping May 31st?!’
Fans believe there is another hidden meaning in the text in addition to the timestamp. Referencing the wording of the text, comments suggest it could allude to the album being the last for the rapper’s alter-ego, Slim Shady, or even his last album entirely.
A heartbroken fan, @_._jc_._ wrote: ‘Don’t you dare, to tell me this is your last album.’ @lucizenadia added, ‘One last album?’
Eminem first encouraged the theory when a trailer promoting the album’s release began circulating online last month.
It included a fake journalist announcing the death of Slim Shady. ‘Through his complex and often-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,’ the fake reporter could be heard saying.
50 Cent collaborated with the rapper for the video, and he could be heard saying, ‘He’s not a friend; he’s a psychopath.’
The reporter added: ‘The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.’
Despite the supposed hint, other fans have theorised that Eminem’s most recent social media post could hint at the birth of a new era for the rapper. @krh1644 wrote, ‘Pulling a B-rabbit up out the hat 👀’ referencing the rapper’s character Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith from 8 Mile.
Returning to the comment section with another theory, @shady.ind theorised, ‘No way B Rabbit took out Shady 💀’

The album’s hit single Godzilla featuring Juice Wrld peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Eminem’s alter-ego, Slim Shady, while popular with fans, is a more aggressive and violent version of the rapper. Many of the Slim Shady songs, including Guilty Conscience and 97 Bonnie and Clyde, contributed to the rapper’s controversial status at the beginning of his career as they referenced drug use, sexual acts, mental instability, and over-the-top violence.
Slim Shady first appeared in 1997 when the star released the Slim Shady EP. Two years later, he released The Slim Shady LP.
