Great British Sewing Bee fans are baffled over new host-Asyia Iftikhar-Entertainment – Metro

Comedian Kiell Smith-Bynoe divided fans over his hosting chops as he kicked off the tenth season of hit BBC series The Great British Sewing Bee.

The 35-year-old media personality, who starred in BBC sitcom Ghosts, has joined as the new host and follows in the footsteps of Sara Pascoe, Joe Lycett and Claudia Winkleman.

The reality competition show follows 12 sewers from across the UK as they battle it out to become Britain’s top tailor. Kiell is joined by returning judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.

This week saw the worried stitchers do up a denim A-line midiskirt, transforming a T-shirt and create a casual day dress as they fight against the clock and try not to prick themselves in the process.

He has previously appeared in a Sewing Bee Christmas Special and told the One Show that he was ‘quite surprised when they asked me back because I don’t think I was any good when I was a contestant’.

Although the format was familiar the Taskmaster star was decidedly not, so fans delivered their verdict on whether he had lived up to the presenting task.

During the episode, it came to light that judge Esme who Kiell was and some fans couldn’t help but agree.

‘Love the new presenter, not sure who he is, but he’s 100% improvement on the previous one,’ @rjc99999 wrote.

‘Who is this new presenter on #sewingbee? Seems to be reading from a script and not much in the way of humour,’ @jess_simpson645 slammed.

Although not all were certain about who he was or whether he was the right fit, most seemed to enjoy Kiell’s style.

‘Kiell immediately becoming a top tier addition to the show,’ @ariadne_reviews wrote.

‘Kiell has the energy of someone who thought he’d signed up to co-host Pointless but has randomly ended up on the Sewing Bee and is just winging it, by which I mean he’s perfect,’ user @lynseyjwrites reflected.

‘Kiell is hilarious and so well suited to this!’ @AaronLR1991 echoed.

‘Kiell’s great. 4 presenters and they haven’t had a bad one yet tbh,’ @hertssid concluded.

The Great British Sewing Bee returns next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
