A very unexpected analysis by NBA host Stephen A. Smith concludes that Mewtwo could take on basketball all-time scorer LeBron James and win.
It’s not long ago that two MMA fighters took down a thief who stole £32,000 worth of Pokémon trading cards, and the franchise has already made its way back into the spotlight in an unusual way.
Sports pundit Stephen A. Smith recently asked fans on Twitter for questions to answer on his YouTube show, when one fan suggested he compare Mewtwo to basketball great LeBron James, to see who would win if they faced off against each other.
Surprisingly, Smith obliged and after looking at the pokémon’s stats Smith concluded that Mewtwo did have a chance against James, who has more points in the NBA than any other player in history.
Twitter user Prexx sent Smith a picture of Mewtwo’s abilities, as well as physical details such as a height of 2 meters and weight of 122kg, asking the host if he thought Mewtwo could win in a one-on-one match.
After hilariously mispronouncing Mewtwo’s name (‘Mootoo’), Smith said: ‘He’s shorter than LeBron, but he weighs more. I don’t know.’
Smith then glanced over Mewtwo’s abilities, such as Pressure and Unnerve, and pokémon type, Psychic, and said:
‘So he’s got composure, he can anticipate moves and stuff like that. Yeah maybe he could pull it off.
‘From the looks of him he might scare LeBron. LeBron might want to shoot nothing but jump shots, might not want to come near him. That can be a problem. And that long tail, you never know, might trip him.’
Amused fans took the tongue-in-cheek comparison by Smith and ran with it on Twitter, with Trey saying: ‘LeBron has 24 hours to respond.’
Fellow Twitter user The Grillkeeper shared a very important detail about the hypothetical match-up, adding: ‘They forgot to tell your boy that Mewtwo can fly and move the ball with his mind.’

When they weren’t making jokes fans were mostly in favour of Mewtwo to win, stating the aforementioned telekinetic powers as a pretty big advantage.
Smith is known for adding humour to his takes on sports, becoming a fan favourite for many who follow basketball, but comparing Mewtwo to LeBron James is definitely something new.
