Loose Women legend Andrea McLean has announced on the show that she is set to return to the series.

In a shock announcement Andrea, who quit Loose Women in 2020, revealed that she is set to return to the ITV daytime TV talk show in September.

The author was a surprise guest on the show on Thursday, May 22 and shocked viewers with the revelation of a comeback as a panellist after four years.

The former host announced: ‘In terms of coming home, you’ll be seeing me again in September! ‘

She then gestured to the studio adding: ‘I’m going to be here.’

Fellow co-host, Nadia Sawalha, added that she’d be back for the 25th anniversary of the show.

‘It’s a very very special couple of months for everybody and you’ve been such a fabric and DNA and part of the show for so many years, so it’ll be a celebration I think of Loose Women,’ lead host Christine Lampard added.

‘With Loose Women, you are part of the discussion you have to share parts of your life and your personal life,’ Andrea said. ‘And I’m so glad I did it here.’

The TV personality appeared as a co-presenter from 2007 until 2020, before quitting to pursue her work as an author.

She has since published, This Girl Is on Fire: How to Live, Learn and Thrive in a Life You Love in 2020 and You Just Need to Believe It: 10 Ways in 10 Days to Unlock Your Courage and Reclaim Your Power in 2022.

The host, who has since appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, said when she announced her departure from the show in 2020 that it was a huge decision after 13 years.

‘All the incredible feedback that I had from my book and the support I was able to give them. I want to bring it to life and I want to…it was a really, really big decision.

‘I just thought, I will never know unless I try so I am saying goodbye to Loose Women,’ she said explaining her departure.

Leaving was clearly emotional for the star and she said at the time: ‘ITV have been amazing. I’ve been anchoring Loose Women for 13 years now, I’ve been part of ITV Daytime for 23 years. The team have been so wonderful.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk in 2022, Andrea revealed she was ‘scared’ to leave the show after more than a decade. She also spoke about who she has kept in contact with: ‘Not everybody but that’s the same as anyone who works in an office.

‘Even when I was there, we didn’t really go out very often because we live all over the country but there’s texting and messaging.’

Although the co-host announced her return to the panel is set to take place towards the end of the year, it’s unclear how long she intends to stay on the show and if she will be returning full-time.

Her comments suggest that she is set to reprise her role as a Loose Women panellist for just the 25th anniversary.

The first ever episode of Loose Women aired on September 6, 1999, almost 25 years ago.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
