Rafe Spall has revealed he now refuses sex scenes because he has had his ‘willy’ out ‘too many times.’

The actor, 41, previously estimated he had starred in 18 intimate scenes throughout his career, including in BBC shows Wild Sargasso Sea and The Chatterley Affair.

Now, though, Rafe, who is the son of national treasure Timothy Spall, said he has sworn off them.

He told Kathy Burke’s podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake: ‘People are always very curious about sex scenes, I’ve actually now said that I don’t want to do them anymore.

‘I’ve done loads. Too many.’

The Hot Fuzz actor quipped: ‘They’re nice if you like 50 blokes watching you pretend to have sex. If that’s your thing!

‘And, also, I’ve had my willy out too many times.’

Rafe’s sex scene ban comes after he revealed he was expecting a baby with his Trying co-star Esther Smith.

The real-life couple play a married couple who struggle to conceive so adopt two children in the Apple TV Plus drama.

Rafe and Esther were first rumoured to be dating in November 2022 after Rafe announced his split from his wife of 12 years, Hollyoaks star Elize Du Toit, with whom he shares three children.

On Lorraine earlier this month, Rafe and Esther announced they were expecting their first baby together when Esther caressed her stomach and said with a wide smile: ‘I’ve got a little bump.’

It was suggested that the pregnancy could get woven into the narrative of Trying, although all the pair could say in response was that they were ‘hoping’ for another series.

‘We’ll have a baby, and then we’ll carry on, perhaps, with that [‘Trying’],’ Esther said.

Rafe added: ‘We’re very excited.’

Lorraine shared her congratulations with the happy couple, saying that it was ‘so fantastic’.

‘So delighted for you, it’s joyful, the whole thing is just wonderful.’

Before Lorraine, Rafe and Esther have never publicly confirmed their romance but were pictured holding hands in London.

In an interview discussing the upcoming Trying season, the Harry Potter actor discussed how their characters Nikki and Jason reflect their real life dynamic.

‘In a long-term relationship when everything else has fallen away, if you still have a laugh together, then you’re going to be alright,’ Rafe told OK! Magazine.

‘In real-life Esther and I have a laugh together and share a similar sense of humour.’

Trying is available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
