The pre-order bonus for Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door in Europe isn’t available anywhere else and it’s already going for £250 on eBay.
20 years since the original release, Nintendo has finally launched a very impressive remake of 2004’s Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Nintendo Switch.
To generate hype around the release, many retailers offered exclusive pre-order bonuses with the game, including paper planes, sticker sheets, and key rings.
The cream of the crop, however, was the Nintendo Store’s own pre-order offering: a cardboard battle stage that looks just like the one in the game. The only problem is it was only available in Europe and Americans are suddenly very envious – as is anyone else that missed out on the chance to get it.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door costs £49.99 but if you pre-ordered the game you could get your hands on the buildable battle stage set as well for a total of £57.99 – meaning the stage alone was £8.
The stage is 14.5 x 16.3 x 27cm in size and features a number of characters from the game, plus an audience watching.
Since it wasn’t widely advertised, many only found out about it on Thursday, the day of the game’s release, when those who had pre-ordered start receiving theirs in the post.
xCross on Reddit is one who wishes they acted sooner, saying: ‘Well, this is actually one of the best pre-order bonuses that I have ever seen.’
American fans are especially jealous as they never even had a chance to buy it, with GoldenGlassBall saying:
‘EU got a diorama. USA got cancellations… ‘Cuz screw us, right?’
That’s a reference to Amazon and Walmart cancelling pre-orders in the US, for unknown reasons, although apparently many Walmart games were delivered anyway.
‘Guess I can’t be mad since the US usually gets the cooler stuff but oh my god I’m gonna be mad anyway because what the f*** dude,’ says thickwonga.

Lots of listings of the battle stage are already up on eBay, priced as high as £249.99, although whether anyone will pay that remains to be seen.
Often retailers will have different pre-order deals in different regions and usually Japan or America gets the best ones, but not this time.
