Roger Bart has reflected on his huge role in Desperate Housewives, admitting he questioned if he would ‘ever work again’ after the series.
Despite appearing in How I Met Your Mother, Hercules, American Gangster and Law Abiding Citizen over the years, creepy George Williams is the character that he gets recognized for most.
The 61-year-old starred as the local Fairview pharmacist who fell in love with Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) in season one, and went to extreme lengths to woo her – including poisoning her husband, Rex (Steven Culp) and killing her therapist.
Things came to ahead when he attempted to guilt her into staying in a relationship by faking his suicide, but accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills when she didn’t fall for his lies.
Unpacking the intense role in a new interview, he recalled realizing how big the program had become when he began getting noticed as George at the airport.
‘I had no idea what it was going to be,’ Roger told People Magazine. ‘Matter of fact, I even shot my first scenes just thinking I was this druggist, and then, Marc Cherry, who created the show, came to our little trailer area and goes, “Do you want to know what we have planned for the character?”

‘I said, “Well, yeah. Unless it hurts me,” and he said, “Well, you’re going to be a sociopath stalker.” So I thought, “Oh, this is going to be really fun.”’
However, he explained that his ‘favorite and most terrifying’ scene to film was George’s death, which left him questioning his own future in Hollywood.
‘I asked the director, “You think I’m ever going to work again after this?” Because I was realizing, just by walking through airports, this is impactful,’ he continued. ‘It put me in such incredible situations.
‘It is great to have been a part of that.’

Desperate Housewives first aired in 2004 and ran for eight seasons, until the emotional finale in 2012.
Marc Cherry’s iconic series blessed us with some unforgettable storylines and episodes, and turned the main Housewives – Marcia, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman – into household names.
Although it has been more than a decade since everyone last set foot on Wisteria Lane, it seems as though we could be returning soon…
Jesse Metcalfe teased a possible Desperate Housewives return (Picture: Disney)
In fact, Jesse Metcalfe, aka ‘hot gardener’ John Rowland, teased that there had been ‘discussions’ about a possible comeback.
‘I can certainly see that happening and I’d be open to it,’ he told the Sun of a reboot.
‘There’s definitely been discussions.’
