The best TV first kisses as Bridgerton’s steamy moment thrills viewers-Josie Copson-Entertainment – Metro
Swooning!

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton have finally turned their friendship into a relationship on the latest season of Bridgerton.
The beginnings of something romantic often starts with one thing in both real life and in fictional shows – a kiss, and that was the case for the latest match on the Netflix show.
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton gave viewers a pretty epic first kiss scene after their characters shared a tender moment in a doorway (and steamy one in a carriage), but who else is in the snogging hall of fame?
From tender moments, to long-awaited clinches and epic romantic declarations, we’ve seen it all.
Some have restored viewers’ faith in love, while others have just made them hot under the collar, here are a few standout first smooches…
Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls)
Viewers knew that Lorelai and Luke were meant to be from the moment we first saw them interact in his diner. It took a self-help book for Luke to finally realise his feelings, and try to turn the friendship into something more.
However, he didn’t directly communicate his change of intention to Lorelai before going in for the kiss, causing her to ask: ‘What are you doing?’ as he lunged forward.
‘Will you just stand still?’ he asked before finally planting one on her. Their combative-style chemistry wasn’t lost despite their step in a different direction which pleased fans.
Jim and Pam (The Office)
True The Office fans know that technically their first kiss was when Pam drunkenly went for it with Jim at the Dundies.
However, it was their Casino night smooch that was their first full-on sober declaration of their feelings, which eventually led to marriage and babies. They set the bar high for office romances with this one.
The Hot Priest and Fleabag (Fleabag)
Their relationship was always complicated and forbidden due to the priest’s occupation, which made their scenes more intense.
While sitting in a confession booth, Fleabag admitted she wanted someone to tell her what to do, and the Hot Priest took it upon himself to be the person by instructing her to kneel. He then crossed the divide and well, you know what happened next.
Daphne and Simon (Bridgerton)
The Bridgerton franchise has given the world romances of epic proportion and it all began with Daphne and The Duke, Simon, who set the blueprint.
They planned to trick people into believing they were a couple so they could survive the season, but they quickly fell for each other. Although they initially tried to deny their feelings they end up kissing. Plenty of drama follows as the pair are unwed which goes against the rules of society, but none of that matters in the moment.
Janine and Gregory (Abbott Elementary)
The school teachers gave us a Will they/Won’t they/Please will they narrative, before finally kissing while on an away trip.
Janine did the impossible and made lanyards sexy when she used the one hanging from Gregory’s neck to pull him back for a second kiss.
Ross and Rachel (Friends)
For ten series, we didn’t really know where Ross and Rachel stood. They couldn’t truly ever get it together until Rachel got off the plane during the finale. Despite the romantic gesture, some fans still argue she should have been with Joey.
Whichever camp you sit in, it’s impossible to deny their first kiss was one for the TV history books. Rachel’s struggle to unlock the door before the big moment only further built up to the eventual smooch.
Actors David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston have since admitted that they were both crushing on each other in real life so the clear chemistry makes sense.
David and Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)
They began as business partners but it wasn’t long before their undeniable spark led to something more.
David made the first move, and Patrick expressed just how grateful he was in one of the sweetest moments on TV. ‘Thank you. I’ve never done that before with a guy, and I was getting a little scared that I was going to leave here without us having done that so thank you for making that happen for us,’ he proclaimed. Thank you for making it happen for all of us, Schitt’s Creek!
Uhura and Captain Kirk (Star Trek)
In a 1968 episode of Star Trek, Ushura kissed Captain Kirk in one of the first interracial kisses on TV.
At the time NBC executives worried the moment would anger certain TV stations, and so two versions of the scene were shot – in the first version Kirk and Uhura kissed, and in the second version they didn’t. Actors Nichelle Nichols and William Shatner purposefully messed up the second version so their kiss would be shown.
Chuck and Blair (Gossip Girl)
Chuck and Blair had a toxic relationship often withholding love from each other to win their ‘game,’ and even using each other to get what they wanted in business, but we won’t get into that now.
Instead, let’s just recall their steamy first kiss in the back of a limousine that no Gossip Girl couple could ever top, no matter how hard they tried.
Alex and Piper (Orange Is The New Black)
Although they’d previously been in a relationship, they’d been broken up a long time, so we consider their prison reunion to be their second first kiss.
Piper is initially frustrated at Alex and blames her for her time behind bars, but there’s a fine line between love and hate – this snog certainly proves that.
Jess and Nick (New Girl)
Jess and Nick provided a kiss so good that people on TikTok are still reacting to the moment ten years later.
The whole episode made us think it wasn’t going to happen. During a drunken game of Good American, the pair were locked in a room and told they must kiss if they want to be freed. Jess’ doctor boyfriend even joined in on the encouraging chants. However, Nick refused as he wanted to kiss her for the first time in the right way.
Jess and viewers lost hope but as they are saying good night, Nick twirled Jess towards him and showed the extent of his long-harboured feelings with a kiss.
Jake Johnson has since revealed that they shot the kiss seven times and the director told him to avoid kissing softly. ‘I don’t need notes on how to kiss a woman,’ he replied. He certainly didn’t!
Nick and Charlie (Heartstopper)
Nick and Charlie are slowly coming to realise their feelings for each other, and delicately test the water with a kiss.
The sweet scene is made even cuter with actual cartoon sparks flying between the pair as they touch hands and then lips for the first time.
