The family of Levi Davis are hoping a new documentary focusing on the case of his disappearance will provide the answers they’re looking for.

Former X Factor star and rugby union player Levi, who was 24 when he went missing, vanished in October 2022 after last being seen on CCTV in Barcelona.

His mum Julie was later told that cruise ship workers stationed in a port near to where Levi was last seen had tried to save ‘someone in the water shouting for help in English’.

After Levi’s passport was found during a search in the area, Spanish police suspended the investigation, meaning that the case remains open but is currently inactive and unsolved.

While a documentary hasn’t officially been greenlit yet, a range of producers are said to be talking to Levi’s family in the hopes of putting the right kind of project together.

Now, a representative for the Davis family has said they’re hoping and praying that any documentary into Levi’s disappearance might shed new light on his whereabouts.

‘We are waiting for the opportunity that affords the best chance of finding out what happened,’ a member of the family told The Sun.

Levi competed in the 2019 series of X Factor: Celebrity as part of the group Try Star, eventually finishing fifth in the competition alongside fellow group members and rugby players Thom Evans and Ben Foden.

In 2020, Levi came out as bisexual, which made him the first bisexual rugby union player to come out while still playing for a professional team.

He’d last played for Ealing Trailfinders, who were recently crowned champions of the RFU Championship – the second tier of rugby in the British rugby pyramid.

Before his disappearance, Levi had been on holiday with his friend in Ibiza for two weeks. Instead of coming back home, however, Levi decided to stop over in Barcelona to see some other friends of his.

However, just hours after touching down in the Catalan city with reportedly only £35 to his name, he had vanished – he wasn’t reported missing until his passport was found.

Divers searched the water near to where cruise ship staff had tried to help a person wearing clothes similar to Levi at the time of his disappearance, but found nothing. The case was then handed over to a specialist team.

Julie has vowed to never give up hope that Levi may be found alive, but admitted she was disappointed to only learn about the drowning theory months after her son went missing.

‘Why is this information about the cruise ship staff only coming months later?’, she asked at the time, adding that she didn’t know whose version of events to believe.

‘A life jacket was thrown from the [cruise] ship and emergency sea and air rescue services searched the area but they were unable to find him,’ a family representative said.

Julie also responded to reports that her son had owed a significant amount of money to a gang before his sudden disappearance, calling the theories ‘false and distressing’.

A video apparently recorded by Levi and saved by a friend is said to have included 15 minutes of him talking about his life being in danger, and that he had been blackmailed by unknown people.

However, she said in a statement: ‘Gang involvement is not being considered or investigated at this time as their focus is on facts and concrete evidence.

‘This is still a missing persons case, it is not and never has been a criminal case and there is not and never has been an imminent arrest.’
