Resident Evil Zero may be getting a remake (Capcom)

Solving the Code
I find the idea of internet wars between different groups of leakers mildly hilarious, especially seeing how angry some of them get, even while they’re admitting they got previous things wrong. However, there are a lot of people backing the Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica rumours, so I guess we have to assume they’re probably true.

It does seem odd that they’re going to end up coming out after Resident Evil 4 but while I’m sure part of it is that the more famous remakes did better than expected but I also suspect that Capcom thought they had to build up interest with a keenly awaited remake like Resident Evil 4 before they tried to get people interested in much more obscure games like Zero and Code: Veronica.

To get the order right they would’ve had to follow-up the already disappointing Resident Evil 3 with the little known Code: Veronica. I don’t even known where you put Zero, but it was certainly never going to come out before Resident Evil 2.

I wonder now if they’ll rejig the stories a bit, so that Code: Veronica happens after Resident Evil 4 and maybe Zero is more about the aftermath of Resident Evil 1 than what happened before – or they stay on the train the whole time or something.

I’d be fine with that, because there’s not much of a connection between those games and Resident Evil 5, and oh boy does that one need a complete rethink. So, to summarise, I’ll be very happy to see Code: Veronica come out next. I hope they get Leonardo DiCaprio to do the voiceover for Steve Burnside.

Internet hype
I’ve seen that Midori’s name come up quite a bit lately in terms of leaks and they seem to be very accurate. But I have to wonder what they get out if it? Are internet kudos points really worth risking your job like that? All they ever leak is codenames and very vague details… if Nintendo ever catches them they’d probably try to get them arrested, I really can’t see how it’s worth it to them.

For others, it is obviously a desire to feel important but as other readers have said I would much rather hear about all this from the publishers. But if they’re not going to announce games until a day before they’re out then obviously other people are going to fill in that vacuum.

I’ll actually give some credit to Activision, that they’ve not only been able to keep most of the stuff about Black Ops 6 secret but they’ve also put in a real effort in building up the hype to June 9. I don’t know what the game is going to be like but at least they seem to care enough to hype it up.

Video game hit
I don’t think the financial hit for Microsoft to put Call Of Duty on Game Pass is as people think. I remember when reading only 25% of players completed the single-player story, many not even touching it.

The money is made from multiplayer, from skins to guns to coins to season pass. Look at Warzone, it’s free to play and makes a fortune. 9th of June going to be interesting, not sure what to make of the rumour that the next console basically a Windows PC but I guess it’s been slowly going in that direction.

Don’t think the industry has ever been in such a precarious situation from jobs to consoles, this cycle seems worse than the past. All the best.
TWO MACKS

GC: Call Of Duty is £70 a pop; that’s a huge financial hit if nobody buys it and only plays it on Game Pass – which was the original hope.

All you can eat
If Nintendo is planning on just doing remasters for their new console and they come out with the open world Zelda as a complete compilation, but in higher resolution, and frame rate then I’m in.

Breath Of The Tears Of The Kingdom sounds great! Both games seamlessly together, with one following straight on from the other and the Champions Ballad DLC too.

And then I woke up and saw myself paying for the same games individually again…

GC: At a bare minimum, that’s over 119 hours of Zelda. We think Nintendo will want to spread it out or no one will ever buy another game.

Welcome your Doom
Very glad to hear that a new Doom seems to be all but confirmed. I loved the last two and I’m very keen to play the next. It also means that id Software are still going, which is I worried about given recent events.

I know all the original staff has moved on now, since the glory days of the original Doom, but I still feel id Software are one of the most underappreciated developers out there, both in terms of their older work being forgotten and the general quality of all their games. Apart from the two Rage games I don’t think they’ve made anything close to a bad game and even those two had really good gunplay.

Bethesda keeps saying they help out on Fallout but I find it hard to believe that given how bad it’s shooting action is. Everything id Software do on their own is top notch and I’d put them right up alongside Bungie in terms of the quality of their shooting.

Unfortunately, the Doom reboots games only seem to have been minor hits, I’m guessing because they’re quite hard and don’t have much of a story, but in terms of gameplay they’re my favourite first person shooters of the modern era.

There’s probably not much reason to expect the third game to do any better but I do strongly recommend the first two games to anyone that’s curious. They can be bought for virtually nothing nowadays and they not only play great but they look great too, considering their age.

At least it works
There is one aspect of Hellblade 2 which I’ve noticed has received zero praise. And that’s how polished it is. So many games release with performance issues, bugs, etc. Hellblade 2 is flawless. I didn’t experience any drops in performance, graphical glitches or anything. We are quick to ridicule developers when they release games in an unfinished state. So credit to Ninja Theory and Xbox for releasing a highly polished game. Whether you like the game or not, it’s an aspect of the game which can’t be denied.

The reality is, we should expect games to release in a completed state. But that certainly isn’t always the case, so credit where it’s due.

Slightly interactive movie
GC were obviously not really impressed with Hellblade 2 and are also known for their dislike of David Cage’s oeuvre, so I simply must ask: if forced to chose to endure another ‘cinematic experience’, that was along the lines of both gameplay styles, what would you opt for?
Wonk

GC: We’d take anything by Ninja Theory over David Cage, but our favourite interactive movie is probably Immortality. The original Life Is Strange and Before The Storm are often classified as graphic adventures but they have less actual gameplay than Immortality, so we’d say they count too.

Pandemic Odyssey
I would never have guessed that Nintendo had such relatively standardised codenames. What’s the betting that they immediately change their system, now that they know people are aware of them?

Knowing there’s a Super Mario game on the way for launch, or near to it, of the Switch 2 isn’t a surprise but I am curious about the idea that there was originally going to be more Super Mario Odyssey. I remember there was a brief period where we thought there was going to be new DLC for the movie but that obviously never materialised.

Now that I think of it, any other DLC plans would’ve hit right in the middle of the pandemic, so that is probably why it never happened. Odyssey is such an easy game to add new worlds to it is a shame though, as Nintendo always has lots of ideas left over at the end of its games.

I also wonder if some of the DLC was Donkey Kong related. Maybe something around New Donk City where you got to play as DK? That would’ve made sense for the 40th anniversary.

I’m sure Nintendo will never explain but I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these ideas made their way into whatever the new game is. Which makes me wonder if it will still have the Cappy gimmick? I’m going to assume probably not but I do think it’s a possibility that the new game could be Odyssey 2, in either name or spirit.

The Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is the first time I’ve played the game and I’ve enjoyed it all so far, but eavesdropping on crows talking about fibre optic broadband has just elevated it to another level of greatness in my opinion.

If that new FIFA is any good I will eat a football. There’s no way they’ve made anything decent in the time they’ve had. It took at least a decade for FIFA to get good and even then it was still being beaten by Pro Evolution Soccer for ages.
