Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were tied together both personally and professionally, but with news of their divorce, the pair will be looking to the future as individuals.

During their 27 years together and 14 years of marriage, they became a presenting duo – notably on ITV’s This Morning from 2006 until 2021 – and have supported each other in the industry.

Eamonn has appeared on Ruth’s show Loose Women on multiple occasions, and he has been there for her as she took on other ventures including sitting in the audience during her Strictly Come Dancing stint.

Equally, Ruth has been present during Eamonn’s career milestones – in the 2018 New Year Honours, Eamonn received an OBE for services to broadcasting with his wife by his side.

Although Ruth and Eamonn, both 64, who share a son – Jack, 22 – reportedly plan to stay amicable, they will naturally further establish themselves separately from each other.

As Ruth embarks on a new journey, experts have shared how they think she can navigate this time in the best way.

To embrace this next chapter, celebrity mindset coach and relationship expert Noor Hibbert believes Ruth should be regularly reminding herself that while the news may be headline-grabbing due to their fame, relationship breakdowns are common and don’t indicate failure.

The author of You Are a F***ing Success added: ‘There is often this myth that we are led to believe that if your relationship doesn’t make it till you die, that somehow you have failed. This belief keeps people in unhappy relationships for long periods, and it’s simply not true.’

While Eamonn has continued presenting the GB News breakfast show, Ruth has so far been absent from the small screen. In Eamonn’s first appearance after the announcement, he briefly addressed the split by thanking viewers for their support.

Noor recommends Ruth doesn’t return to TV until she feels ready: ‘Ruth should take the time to process her feelings rather than dive straight back into work and keep busy without the space to address how she’s feeling.’

She continued: ‘Processing and addressing how you are feeling and having acceptance of why it’s time to move on is important to Ruth moving forward most positively.’

When she does return to her regular work on Loose Women, celebrity manager and PR Mayah Riaz states it is important she talks to the viewers about what has been happening in her life.

‘Loose Women is a show where panellists speak about their private lives, so when she returns, it will be important for her to address the split. This is what viewers will want from her,’ she advised.

However, Mayah added that Ruth should be cautious about what details she shares to protect the former couple’s reputation.

‘I would urge her to exercise caution in divulging too much personal information that could harm her or Eamonn’s reputation.

‘Maintaining a level of privacy can help her maintain a positive image publicly. It may seem tempting to try and win sides by opening up on why they are divorcing – this will be unwise.’

The way to avoid negative connotations around the end of their marriage is to focus on spreading a message of empowerment, explained Mayah. Ruth could share her personal experience in a way that will emphasise resilience. Her personal brand could be strengthened as women could relate to her experience, and be inspired by how she’s been able to move onwards and upwards. Mayah concluded: ‘She can control the narrative.’

Although neither party got married to divorce, Mayah sees the split as an opportunity for Ruth to ‘shine’ on her own. To showcase her personality to an even bigger audience, Mayah recommends that Ruth signs up for the reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – this could lead to new opportunities in realms she’s not previously explored.

‘By sharing her own experiences and offering advice on a large platform, she can contribute to a positive narrative and establish herself as a voice for others. She could then collaborate with initiatives or organisations that promote women’s empowerment, self-care or mental health support,’ Mayah said.

Before leaping onto the Australian-based challenge show, Mayah thinks that first Ruth should dip her toe by attending more showbiz events, to show she’s enjoying single life.

Noor’s final piece of advice for Ruth is to focus on the good things in her life, such as her friends and family, and her successful ventures including a clothing collection with QVC.

‘Focusing on the good things in her life will reduce stress, which in turn will help her find better solutions and have a clearer mind on the next steps she wants to take in her life and career,’ she shared.

‘I’d want her to be spending time with people she loves, who make her happy and finding connection in those relationships whilst she heals and moves forward. The quicker she can process this all, the better for her career, as she begins the next chapter of her life.’

Eamonn has begun navigating public life post-announcement, but body language expert Judi James has concluded that he seemed ‘reluctant’ and ‘suppressed his emotions’.
