‘I’d scrap the whole look’ wedding guest savaged for outfit that’s ‘painfully 2010’ and ‘so tacky’

PICKING out a wedding guest outfit is no easy task.

There’s lots of rules on what to wear and what you can’t, including wearing white or red to someone else’s wedding.

Redditthe wedding guest was asking if her outfit was good enough, but many said she needed to rethink the whole look[/caption]

But one woman has been savaged for the outfit she picked for a fancy wedding in the wine region Bordeaux, France.

Taking to Reddit showing off her outfit she revealed there was no compulsory theme but the bride was hoping for people to wear florals and pastel colours.

She said: “No compulsory theme, but the optional theme is florals/pastel colours. The bride is making her own dress, which will be white with colourful floral embroidery.

“I altered this skirt last year (was originally a full midi skirt) and really want to wear it. I will be removing the shoulder straps from the final outfit, this was just for comfort whilst I tried it on.

“The shoes have this gorgeous blush pink floral lace all over them and are comfortable for me (but I will be taking flats in my bag!)”

The outfit consisted of a black lace off-the shoulder top which she paired with a black midi-skirt which had a large pink and white rose pattern all over.

She asked members of the Reddit group, Wedding Attire Approval: “Is this outfit wedding appropriate?

“My partner is happy with it and thinks his family will be fine. Is there any way I can improve it?”

And people were quick to share their brutally honest opinions.

Many said the outfit was too dated and looked cheap for a wedding.

One person wrote: “Everything about this outfit is very painfully 2010, from the skirt, to the top to the platform peep toe pumps. I’d scrap the whole look (including the second and third top option) and go with something more up to date.”

Another commented: “Okay so I promise I’m not trying to be mean and if you were my friend irl I would tell you this. This outfit is what the kids today would call cheugy.

“If it was 2012, I would say this is the cutest skirt ever, but nowadays it looks a little dated.”

“I don’t think black to a wedding is ‘done’ in France. Sorry, I think you’ll have to start from scratch. As others have mentioned, I think a dress might be a better option,” penned a third.

Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette

If you’re struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here’s a few rules on what not to wear so you don’t get in trouble.

Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “I would want some one to tell me the truth if I was asking. This outfit is incredibly tacky.”

“This is so tacky. I’m sorry,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Lace on most clothing really cheapens the look, both financially and fashionably. Love the skirt though. A better top and black or rose coloured straps heels would also look so much better.”
