Jonnie Irwin’s co-star Jasmine Harman burst into tears recalling her memories with him, four months after his death.

The beloved TV star and dad-of-three died aged 50 in February, having been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020.

He had initially kept his diagnosis private but decided to speak out about it in November 2022, explaining that he had been given ‘months to live’.

Since his death, his wife Jessica Holmes and colleagues have paid tribute to him, and on Wednesday’s Loose Women, Jasmine, who first appeared on screen with Irwin 20 years ago, spoke of the first time they met and his legacy.

The 48-year-old explained that the two had met during filming in South Africa, having begun their television careers together.

‘Looking at these old photos chokes me up actually,’ she said.

Jasmine continued: ‘It was a big break away for both of us from what we’d been doing previously, going to work in television, so we didn’t always film together because we were always in different countries, but we used to get together at the Place In The Sun live events, we became very good friends.

‘Jonnie came to my wedding, he was the butt of a lot of my dad’s jokes when my dad his speech, I met my husband on the show as well, and when Jonnie met Jess, his lovely wife, I just remember thinking, “Wow she is the one for him,” and they had their lovely boys.

‘It’s really a hard time.’

Breaking down into tears, she went on: ‘You never know what’s around the corner, and I think we can all take something from it… we can all cherish everyday and live with as much joy as possible, and that’s what he did.’

She went on to say that Jess wants people to keep his memory alive, adding: ‘She’s an amazing woman, but the outpouring of love for him has been amazing so I want to thank all the people who have sent messages.’

After Harman’s death was announced earlier this year, Jasmine penned a lengthy tribute referring to him as ‘my partner in crime’.

In part, she wrote: ‘Jonnie, you’ve taught me so much in our time as work colleagues and as good friends.

I have never admired you more than over the last few years as you’ve faced life with cancer with positivity, determination and bloody mindedness.

I’ve never known anyone as strong as you. You have done yourself, your loved ones and all of us proud.’

She concluded: ‘The world is a little darker today without you, but I will always smile when I think of you.

‘My partner in crime, my OG co-presenter – Jonnie, I will miss you.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1.
