Outnumbered star drops potentially heartbreaking clue about Christmas special-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro

Outnumbered actor Hugh Dennis teased a huge – and potentially devastating – plotline ahead of the sitcom’s much-anticipated return.

Last week the BBC announced the show, which follows the lives of the chaotic Brockman family, had been revived for a festive special.

The 40-minute one-off episode will follow Hugh’s character Peter and Sue (Claire Skinner) gather their family together to try to celebrate a traditional Christmas.

However, on GMB today, Mock the Week star Hugh, 62, implied in a heartbreaking twist that the family had been separated.

Discussing Outnumbered’s comeback, he said: ‘It’s going to be strange isn’t it because I don’t think we live together anymore as a family.

‘There’s lots of different stuff to reflect and one of the great things about the show was to reflect life as it actually was.’

Hugh also said he had ‘read in the paper’ that Peter and Sue were grandparents in the Christmas special – but did not confirm or deny the rumour.

He said: ‘It’s great that it’s coming back. We are doing this 40 minute special but we don’t really know anything about it.

‘We’ve read in the paper that we’ve got a grandchild but we don’t know who’s kid it is.’

Hugh will also be acting alongside his real-life girlfriend Claire in Outnumbered. In 2018, the couple confirmed they were dating after splitting from their respective partners.

It will be the first time they’ve starred in a show together since announcing their relationship.

When asked by GMB co-host Richard Madeley what it was like filming with his ‘missus’, Hugh replied he ‘didn’t know yet’ as production commences in November.

In addition to Claire, the show’s original child cast Tyger Drew-Honey as eldest son Jake, Daniel Roche as the middle child Ben, and Ramona Marquez as the daughter, Karen, are returning.

A final Christmas special then aired on Boxing Day 2016, which attracted an average of seven million viewers and has had fans begging for more ever since.

The show became loved for its comical yet realistic portrayal of family life, catapulting child actors Tyger, Daniel, and Ramona to fame.

All scenes featuring the kids were semi-improvised. While the adult cast members were given scripts, the youngsters were given last-minute instructions by the writers instead, allowing hilarity to ensue thanks to the unpredictability of what they might say.

As a result, the series scooped several awards, including from the Comedy.co.uk awards, the Royal Television Society, the British Comedy Awards and the Broadcasting Press Guild.

Outnumbered is returning to the BBC later this year.
