In what appears to be a Sony slip-up, Destiny 2’s next expansion has leaked online after some players gained access early.

Destiny 2’s current narrative arc is set to conclude in its next expansion The Final Shape, but a seemingly accidental error has spoiled many of the DLC’s surprises.

Just days before it was set to launch on June 4, various Destiny 2 players have shared leaks of weapons, armour, perks, raid mechanics and other details from the expansion online.

According to reports, players were temporarily able to access the expansion through cloud streaming following a PS5 update. While server access was quickly revoked, that small window has allowed some players to see contents of the DLC early and share spoilers on social media.

It’s unclear how large the extent of the leak is, but it certainly seems pretty devastating. If you’re anticipating the expansion though, it’s probably wise to stay off the internet over the coming days.

While the exact details of how the issue occurred are unknown, it seems like Sony might be at fault considering it didn’t happen on any other platform and it’s connected to the PS5’s streaming functionality. Neither have commented on the situation at the time of writing (May 30).

Any leak is unfortunate for developers, but this might have an extra sting considering The Final Shape is billed as a climax to a decade-long narrative. The expansion was also previously delayed from February to June to allow Bungie to ‘deliver an even bigger and bolder vision’.

Bungie itself also seemingly has a lot riding on The Final Shape, with reports suggesting Sony is ‘very upset’ with the studio’s leadership after the developer missed revenue targets. As such, significant layoffs are expected at the studio over the coming months.

Despite this reported behind-the-scenes turmoil, earlier this year Bungie appeared to tease a sequel to Destiny 2, although nothing has been announced. The studio is also working on a reboot of Marathon, which is expected in 2026.

It’s likely we’ll hear more about Bungie’s future plans though following The Final Shape expansion’s full release on June 4.
