Lenny Kravitz has opened up about remaining celibate while looking for love, explaining that he has worked on ‘discipline’.
The Fly Away singer, 60, was previously married to Lisa Bonet and welcomed Zoe Kravitz with the actress – they split in 1991, and divorced two years later, but have remained close friends for the sake of their daughter.
In the wake of their separation, the musician was involved in a string of high-profile relationships, including romances with Kylie Minogue and Vanessa Paradis, and was engaged to both Adriana Lima and Nicole Kidman.
In a new interview, he revealed that he has not been in a serious relationship for nine years, and has abstained for sex during this time.
When asked if he was serious when he shared that he wanted to be celibate until finding the right woman to settle down with, he confirmed to the Guardian: ‘Yes. It’s a spiritual thing.’
Although he would love to be in a relationship now, he conceded that this may be a struggle, insisting: ‘I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live.’

There were points ‘after the marriage’ that Lenny noticed he was ‘becoming a player’, and strived to do something about it, introducing more discipline into his life.
‘I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years,’ he continued. ‘By taking responsibility. Discipline. Not letting my own desires take over.
‘It’s part of my discipline – it’s about body, mind and spirit. I want all of those three elements aligned. If my body’s in shape and my spirit and mind are not, then it’s just something nice to look at or to boast about. Who cares?
‘For me, all of it has to be aligned. And I have to do the work it takes to have all of those in alignment so my being can be at its maximum.’

Lenny recently appeared on CBS Mornings for a sit-down with Gayle King and confirmed that, despite being set in his ways, he is ready to welcome love into his life.
‘Right now, I’m just open,’ he told the host. ‘When you desire something, you’re looking for it, right? But I find that when you don’t look is when you find it.
‘I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now.’
The superstar has been in the industry for decades, thanks to a back catalog of iconic songs including It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over, Are You Gonna Go My Way and American Woman.

He has also successfully dipped his toe in Hollywood, popping up in the Hunger Games franchise, Shotgun Wedding, The Butler and Precious.
Despite having many years of experience under his belt, he admitted that there is a part of him still desperate to be given a chance at success.
‘I think I was raised – not purposely, but to be a people pleaser. Where I put a lot of people’s feelings before mine. Because I want to see folks happy. And that can be detrimental if you go overboard with that,’ he added.
‘For some reason, I’m still that 16-year-old kid trying to get the record deal.
‘I haven’t shed all of that.’
