A contestant on The 1% Club has hit back at claims he cheated after viewers spotted a suspicious clue.

The latest season of Lee Mack’s ITV gameshow came to an end on Saturday, with a Big Brother star making an appearance.

But as well as noticing Yinrun in the crowd, viewers were quick to spot what they thought was one player cheating and trying to give away the answer to other contestants, one of whom included his wife.

During the 20% question, which read ‘To which body part can you add one letter at the start to make it the word for the job it does?’ Jason Duckett appeared to be touching his ears.

However, he’s now insisted that although ‘ear’ was the right answer, the gesture was purely a coincidence.

The DJ said: ‘I almost admire the creativity of someone to come up with that because I hadn’t thought of that.

‘There was nothing to gain for either of us. We were both out. Anything I was doing it was to just sort of calm myself.’

He added to The Sun: ‘If you spin it, you could say my arms are folded. Was the answer harm and arm?’

Lee had earlier spoken to the 36-year-old and his wife Rowena who was also playing the game, and told him that he looked ‘smug’ over ‘beating her’.

However it wasn’t meant to be, with both contestants knocked out of the game.

Viewers were convinced Jason had been cheating at the time, with Daryl writing on X: ‘I saw that guy touching his ear to give people a clue!’

‘Yeah I saw the Duckett bloke cheating by pointing to his ear,’ @ivorbiggins45 added.

@butterygoods wrote: ‘Anyone see the guy touching his ears when the h(ear) question came up. He was out already but still.’

Matt also wrote: ‘Bit naughty from Mr Duckett there rubbing his ear – hear…..20% question.’

Responding to some comments, The 1% Club account penned: ‘Maybe he had ear ache.’

A 1% Club spokesperson added to The Sun: ‘Any game show worth its salt attracts conspiracy theories. But happily, initial inquiries quickly established that there were no grounds for suspicion.’

Elsewhere, the final had viewers fuming over Lee mispronouncing reality icon Yinrun’s name.

On multiple occasions, Lee, 58, called her Runrun, saying once: ‘I’m so sorry to say that we’ve lost Runrun,’ after she got a question wrong, and even going on to make a joke based on her name.

‘Runrun, I’m so sorry. You need to change your name to Staystay.’

‘Just in case anyone is confused, I was given the name ‘Runrun’ on the show, but it’s still me, I don’t have a twin,’ the 26-year-old later said on Instagram.

Fans headed to the comment section to express their disagreement with Yinrun being referred to as an incorrect name, with many presuming it was due to Runrun being considered easier to pronounce.

‘Totally not okay they changed your name because it’s “easier to pronounce” Yinrun is very easy to say, and even if it wasn’t, it still needs to be learnt and said! Yinrun is a beautiful name!🫶,’ wrote Molly, with the comment liked over 350 times.
