Despite being single-player games, the PC version of God Of War Ragnarök and Until Dawn will require a PlayStation Network account.

The heavily rumoured PC version of God Of War Ragnarök was officially announced during Sony’s State Of Play presentation, but it isn’t all good news.

Over recent months, Sony has caused some frustation with the implementation of a new policy which requires players to have a PSN account in order to play its PC ports. While it sounds like a minor inconvenience, the issue is PSN isn’t accessible in 177 countries and territories around the world.

The recent PC version of Ghost Of Tsushima was delisted from those countries because of this issue, although you were only required to sign into PSN if you wanted to play the co-op multiplayer mode. Now, however, Sony has confirmed the policy will apply to single-player titles – for some reason.

Following its reveal at Sony’s State Of Play, the Steam page for God Of War Ragnarök shows a PSN account will be required to play when it launches on September 19.

The same also applies to the upcoming remaster of Supermassive’s narrative-driven horror Until Dawn, which is released in autumn this year on PS5 and PC.

This presumably means both PC versions will be unavailable in the same 177 countries, which is particularly bizarre considering both games have no online multiplayer features.

It’s even more strange considering 2018’s God Of War, which came out on PC in 2022, had no such requirement – so many people who played the original will not have access to the sequel.

Sony previously backtracked on the policy in the case of Helldivers 2 after fans kicked off, but that was likely because it had already been available for months without restrictions. Based on these two latest examples though, it seems like this will be the standard for all of Sony’s PC ports in the future.
