Konami has shown an extended look at its upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which takes more than a few cues from Resident Evil.

Following Sony’s State Of Play presentation, Konami held its own showcase dedicated to the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Outside of a brief look at new film Return To Silent Hill, the showcase itself only focused on the upcoming remake from developer Bloober Team – with no word on other projects like Silent Hill Townfall or Silent Hill.

Over 13 minutes of gameplay was shown from the remake, which is set to be released on PlayStation 5 and Steam on October 8.

The footage itself shows protagonist James Sunderland wandering the foggy streets of Silent Hill before it cuts to a section from the Brookhaven Hospital.

With a new over-the-shoulder perspective and overhauled combat mechanics, it now looks very reminiscent of Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake – which can be either a positive or a negative depending on who you ask.

The lead characters are voiced by new actors in the remake, with Luke Roberts and Salóme Gunnarsdóttir playing James and Maria respectively.

The biggest question is whether it can replicate the creepy atmosphere and narrative depth of the 2001 original, which is widely regarded as one of the best horror games of all time.

During the presentation, Konami also announced a deluxe edition for the remake, which includes a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack featuring tracks by original composer Akira Yamaoka, and an in-game Pyramid Head pizza box mask.

By pre-ordering the deluxe edition, you’ll also be given access to the game two days early and receive two other in-game cosmetics – a Mira the Dog mask along with a Robbie the Rabbit mask. You’ll also be given the latter items if you pre-order the standard edition.
