The truth behind Ruth Langsford wearing her ‘wedding ring’ after splitting from Eamonn Holmes-Meghna Amin-Entertainment – Metro

Nearly one week after announcing her split from husband of 14 years Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langsford appears to still be wearing a ring.

The Loose Women star, 64, and GB News presenter Eamonn, also 64, confirmed they are in the process of divorcing last weekend, after work commitments had resulted in the TV duo drifting in ‘different directions’, but they were determined to ‘keep things amicable’, it was said.

They’ve since said little about their split, and have returned to their roles on TV and social media.

But in a recent live TV segment, Ruth seemed to still be wearing a sentimental piece of jewellery on her wedding ring finger.

During an appearance on QVC on Thursday to promote her clothing range, she was seen wearing a silver ring, however, on further inspection, it appears to be more of an eternity band rather than her wedding or engagement rings.

She also wore the same band days earlier in her first selfie posted on Instagram since the news.

In comparison, in pictures taken over recent years, Ruth’s engagement ring boasted a square-cut diamond, nestled below a thin silver band – and she was also spotted wearing these rings just days ago, as she was pictured for the first time since announcing her split.

The ring now in question that she seems to be wearing in the QVC teleshopping segment stands out a little thicker, and according to a relationship expert, if she’s wearing an eternity ring, it may be a symbol of her history in her relationship as she moves into a new chapter in her life, rather than holding onto her past marriage.

Louella Alderson, co-founder of dating app So Syncd, explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘Ruth and Eamonn’s relationship span over two decades. While some may view wearing an eternity ring after divorce as unusual or confusing, it can hold deep personal significance for the individual.

‘An eternity ring is traditionally given as a token of everlasting love and commitment in a relationship. It usually consists of a continuous band of diamonds or other precious stones, representing an unbreakable bond between two people.

‘This type of jewellery holds significant sentimental value and is often worn as a symbol of the enduring love shared between a couple.

‘Removing her ring may feel like an erasure of memories and a sense of complete finality to the relationship.

‘Even though their divorce is confirmed, she may not want to let go of a relationship that has been a significant part of her life for so long.

‘It doesn’t mean that she is necessarily still holding on to hope for reconciliation, but rather it can be seen as a way of her honouring and cherishing her former marriage and bond.‘It could also serve as a reminder of the lessons learned from the relationship and the growth that came from it. Wearing her eternity ring could simply be Ruth’s way of keeping a piece of their history with her, even as she moves forward into a new chapter of her life.’

Louella added: ‘Ruth could also just be used to wearing the ring and feels physically uncomfortable without it. It has become a part of her daily routine and removing it may not be symbolic of her marriage but simply a habit.’

She went on to explain how some people who aren’t celebrities also wear their wedding rings after a divorce for similar reasons, saying: ‘It’s not uncommon for celebrities to continue wearing their wedding rings or other special jewellery from their partners after a divorce.’

Ruth was pictured on Wednesday in high spirits running errands, looking chic in a quilted black jacket paired with a brown bag and sunglasses.

As she held a Stanley Cup, it was clear to see she had her engagement ring and wedding band on as she strolled around Weybridge.

Explaining why she was wearing her wedding ring days after the split news, Louella continued: ‘For many celebrities, their wedding ring or special jewellery holds deep emotional significance.

‘Even after a divorce, these pieces can hold happy memories and serve as a reminder of the good times shared with that person.’

Citing other celebrity break-ups, she continued: ‘Celebrities have often used jewellery to make subtle statements about their marriage or divorce. Wearing a wedding ring after a divorce can signal that the couple is still on good terms and there is no bad blood between them.

‘It can also serve as a way to show their commitment to co-parenting and maintaining an amicable relationship for the sake of their children.

‘In some cases, celebrities may remove their wedding rings even before a split is officially announced, causing the media and fans to speculate about the state of their marriage.

‘Ben Affleck, for example, was spotted without his wedding ring recently whilst issues of his divorce with Jennifer Lopez were just starting. However, he has been seen with his wedding ring on again. This could be interpreted as a sign that they were on the verge of a break up but now may reconcile.

‘Celebrities’ public appearances are often well documented and scrutinized by the public, leading to further speculations and rumours about their relationship status. They are usually aware of the impact of their actions, including the decision to keep wearing or remove their wedding ring.

‘This can also be a way for them to control the narrative and send a message about their relationship with their ex-partner.’
