Toys For Bob has officially announced a partnership with Microsoft on their next project, with all signs pointing to a new Spyro.

After the studio teased a partnership with Microsoft earlier this year, Toys For Bob has officially sealed the deal for its next game.

The developer, who are best known for Skylanders and the modern Crash and Spyro games, were previously part of Activision Blizzard, which is now owned by Microsoft.

Despite being celebrated for their Crash and Spyro remakes, the studio was drafted in as a support developer on Call Of Duty while under Activision. This was followed by layoffs, but things took a positive turn when the studio announced it was going independent earlier this year.

After hinting some sort of Microsoft partnership for their next game was in the works when they split from Activision, Toys For Bob has now confirmed the news.

‘We’re excited to announce that we’ll be partnering with Xbox to publish our next new game,’ a post on Twitter reads. ‘We’re still very early in development, so you might not hear from us for a bit – but know that we’re working hard on an experience we’re so sooo inspired about! Can’t wait to share more.’

The studio posted the message alongside a purple heart emoji graphic, which adds more evidence to the pile that they are working on Spyro 4.

Toys For Bob previously hinted it was working on another Spyro through a ‘horns on’ tease in the studio’s independent announcement. An insider later claimed development on Spyro 4 had begun in January this year, which lines up with the official statement above.

If true, this would mark the studio’s first time creating an original Spyro game. Toys For Bob developed 2018’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which was a remake of the original PlayStation games.

The studio has proven themselves more than capable though. Toys For Bob’s first original Crash title, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, was a great continuation of that series, so it makes sense that they would tackle Spyro next.

While it’s unclear whether this means it will be an Xbox exclusive, Microsoft is set to debut its upcoming slate at the Xbox Showcase on June 9.
