Britain’s Got Talent has become mired in controversy after fans began to suspect that the last semi-final of the week was ‘rigged’ in favour of magician Trixy.
A tense showdown saw Trixy, comedian Alex Mitchell and singing duo Stefan & Denise competing for a place in the grand final.
Having received the most public votes, Alex was put straight through to Sunday night’s final.
Meanwhile, judges put Trixy through after his last performance – with Stefan & Denise being eliminated from the competition, their hopes of winning dashed.
During his semi-final audition, Trixy wowed the judges and audience with a trick involving a phone calculator and a seemingly ‘random’ set of numbers.
However, Trixy’s, uh, trick left some fans even more convinced than ever that there might be meddling afoot.

As his act began, Trixy asked everyone to open up the calculators on their mobile phones. He then asked the judges to pick numbers at random.
When Bruno Tonioli revealed that he had woken up at 8:45am that morning, Trixy asked the audience to put 845 into their calculators.
He then asked Alesha Dixon how many people were in the audience – to which she guessed 3000.
After adding Amanda Holden’s 1:04am bedtime (104) to the figure of 3045, he asked host Declan Donnelly to give a random six-digit number.
After asking the audience to press the equals number, he revealed an answer of 815, 823 – which he read out at 8:23 on the dot, on May 31st.
This left more suspicious fans wondering whether Dec might have been in on the trick – given that the whole thing relied on Dec giving the specific number he had.

A later blunder gave credence to this conspiracy theory – when Trixy appeared to congratulate Alesha on her ‘live’ performance – before it had actually aired.
‘Alesha, loved your performance by the way,’ he told her during his audition. This, in spite of the fact that Alesha didn’t perform her new single, Ransom, until the end of the show.
This led some to wonder whether his trick had been pre-recorded for later broadcast – at 8:23 as intended.

‘Trixy is a plant, no way could he legitimately be voted through ahead of Denise and Stefan. Appalling,’ wrote dcsideways on the social media platform X.
‘Dec being given the number for Trixy to solve the date trick and get being helped to the final is shameful,’ agreed danham0707.
‘I don’t think this was live because Trixy complemented Alicia (sic) on her performance during his act,’ theorised Crabbe_p.
‘There was me thinking Trixy was a time traveller when he congratulated Alesha on her performance but then the time Amanda goes to sleep was too random a number to be random. Show looks to be like the critics say, No Live,’ said DundeePerfect.

Tonight’s final will see Trixy battle it out against his fellow hopefuls – including Japanese skipping group Haribow, fellow magician Jack Rhodes, Northants Sing Out, singer Sydney Christmas… and one wildcard act who was previously eliminated from the competition.
Can Trixy make history repeat itself enough to score the BGT win?
