The Chase viewers are fuming over contestant’s ‘insulting’ and ‘unbelievable’ behaviour-Pierra Willix-Entertainment – Metro

Viewers have been left gobsmacked after an old clip from The Chase showed a contestant completely ignoring his team-mate.

On a 2019 episode of the long-running game show, 67-year-old Richard from Cornwall disregarded fellow contestant Fiona after they got a chance to take a point back from The Vixen, Jenny Ryan.

In the final chase Jenny had stumbled and given an incorrect answer when asked: ‘‘Which confectionery company makes Revels?’

Jenny had thought it was Cadbury, which meant host Bradley Walsh threw the question over to the contestants and gave them an opportunity to push the chaser back.

Fiona, 38, a registrar from County Durham was confident she knew the correct answer and told her teammate: ‘She [Jenny] said Cadbury, shall we go Mars?’

Looking back and forth from Fiona to the host a few times, Richard clearly didn’t pay what she said any attention and answered: ‘Cadbury.’

Clearly confused by what had just unfolded, Fiona’s eyes widened, and she turned her head, but didn’t berate Richard for his head-scratching action.

However, Bradley pointed out that Jenny had already said Cadbury.

‘Mars, exactly what Fiona said,’ he revealed, to which she threw her hands up in the air.

Instead of admitting his mistake, all Richard could manage was to turn to Fiona and say: ‘Yea you did. Well done.’

This week the clip of their exchange was shared on social media again, with many people shocked at what happened.

‘I’ve seen it, and I still don’t believe it,’ Adrian posted on X.

‘Actually, I watched it when it aired. I was absolutely furious with him. And she was a million times more gracious than I would have been,’ Fran shared.

User Michael simply wrote ‘unbelievable’.

Others called his ‘well done’ comment at the end the ‘ultimate insult’.

Over his years at the helm of the show, Bradley has done his best to bring contestants into line for an array of reasons.

Earlier this year he issued a warning after a conversation on the family-friendly show became quite naughty.

On an episode in January, London-based 29-year-old writer and performer Reece got up to go head-to-head with the chaser.

One of the questions he was faced with was: ‘In ceramics, what is a finial?’

The possible answers were an ornate spout, a relief panel or a decorative knob.

After locking in the final option, Reece cheekily declared he ‘knew a lot about decorative knobs’.

As the audience started laughing, he continued: ‘I have no idea, but if I am going to go home, I’d like it to be on a decorative knob.’

Doing his best to not laugh, Paul was cracking a smile while Bradley looked like he was about to lose it laughing but then pulled Reece aside for a chat and jokingly said: ‘Don’t come on here ruining my show.’

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
