Season two of Frasier is set to be a family affair as Kelsey Grammer has cast his own daughter, Greer Grammer, in a major role.

The 69-year-old reprised his role as the stuffy Dr Crane for the Paramount+ revival last year, with the second series currently in production.

It was previously announced that Peri Gilpin, who played Roz Doyle in the original series, would return as a recurring guest star for the upcoming episodes, following her surprise appearance in the season one finale.

She will be joined in Boston by her on-screen daughter, Alice, with Greer nabbing the role.

Variety announced the news, sharing a glimpse at what we can expect from the character.

‘Now in her late twenties, friendly, outgoing Alice has inherited more than some of her mother Roz’s free-spirited ways,’ the description reads.

‘Having just moved to Providence to study architecture, Alice is eager to catch up with Frasier’s son Freddy – and complicate whatever romantic plans he may have.’

Filming has started, with James Burrows slated to direct the first two episodes – but it is currently unclear when the program will premiere.

Kelsey introduced Greer with ex Barrier Buckner, and also shares daughter Spencer Grammer with ex-wife Doreen Alderman, and children Jude and Mason with former partner Camille Grammer.

He went on to welcome Faith, Kelsey and Auden with current wife, Kayte Walsh.

Many of his seven children have following in his acting footsteps, with Spencer known for her work on Rick and Morty – she also shared the screen with her dad in Lifetime’s The Last Days of Christmas Eve in 2022.

Speaking to Variety, the Simpsons legend insisted that he never pushed any of them to step in front of the camera, but he’s thrilled that they want to.

‘My children – my young children, older children – the happiest I ever am is if they’re all in the same room together,’ he raved. ‘My work has allowed me to be able to do that.

‘I’ve been given this great experience. It’s been painful and challenging and hard and tragic – all those things. But boy, it’s a great life. And I want to pass that on to them.

‘Kayte and I were talking about how it’s really something that a child would follow in their father’s footstep.

‘To think that all my kids, at least the ones that have a hand in the air, are ready to take responsibility for their lives, are all drawn to this industry.

‘I never wanted to push myself on them. I never wanted to force them into the industry or intrude too much into their process. Because it’s a bit of a mixed blessing to have my last name. People take it out on you. You get some attention maybe because of it. And there’s a split as to whether or not it’s good or bad.’

Frasier is available to stream on Paramount+ now.
