You can now apply for a job that pays £13.15 an hour to sell people furniture and meatballs, as an Ikea employee in its Roblox store.
Swedish furniture retailer Ikea is looking for new staff, but don’t worry about being forced to do back-breaking work in the warehouse, as the roles only exist within a virtual store in Roblox.
A total of 10 candidates will be offered a job in the store, which pays £13.15 an hour, on a limited contract… that is fully remote and flexible.
The new recruits will go on to work what sounds like a typical Ikea store job, just in Roblox instead of a physical shop – which at least means no commute.
The successful candidates will ‘work in different sections of the store, like the showroom and bistro, helping people choose their furniture, serving meatballs, having the chance to win exclusive UGCs [user-generated content] and much more,’ the job ad says.
If that sounds strange, wait until you read the questions on the application form, one of which is: ‘How would you feel about being turned into pixels?’
Another questions asks: ‘If you were a pixelated Ikea furniture, which one would you be and why? A third wants to know: ‘What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?’
The idea behind all this is to introduce people to different career paths at Ikea, by remaking a store in Roblox through its Careers Done Different programme, according to Bloxz Media on Twitter.

The Ikea experience is set to go live in Roblox on June 24 and the 10 positions are open for everyone to apply for, as long as you are at least 18 years of age and don’t already work at Ikea.
The job ad also states that ‘you have the opportunity to move departments, flex your skill, and get promoted,’ but it doesn’t go into further details.
Bloxz Media also states that the Roblox Ikea store will be made by Swedish studio The Gang, known for creating other Roblox experiences such as Vans World and the Strongman Simulator, as well as Fortnite islands Race To Wimbledon and OG Gun Game.
