Fans have pulled no punches as they demand the aimbot problem in the ‘unplayable’ Team Fortress 2 be fixed, calling Valve’s inaction ‘appalling’.
Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike 2 publisher Valve doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to keeping cheaters out of its games, an issue that has been on full display in recent months.
A cheating epidemic got so bad in Counter-Strike 2 that two of the game’s biggest content creators quit the game in protest. Valve has banned tens of thousands of players since then, so it’s well aware of the problem.
Now the Team Fortress 2 community has had enough too, calling Valve’s treatment of the shooter ‘appalling’, as a petition to curb its bot infestation is spreading like wildfire online, with almost 200,000 signatures.
The petition has been live for less than two days and over 190,000 fans have already signed it.
The goal of the petition is to bring attention to the long-standing aimbot issue in Team Fortress 2, while asking Valve for an update to its anti-cheat system, stating: ‘For the past five years, Team Fortress 2 has become nearly unplayable.
‘The game’s official servers have been overrun by hordes of cheating aimbots, while Valve has remained steadfast in their refusal to adequately tackle the problem.’
Team Fortress 2 fans have also started to review bomb the game on Steam, where recent reviews are now labelled ‘mostly negative’.
‘My favourite game, a game I wish I could recommend. But as of recent years I have grown to slowly drift away from it due to the hacker bots. At the moment the game is just unplayable,’ says one fan in their recent review of Team Fortress 2.
The petition goes on to call Valve’s lack of attention to the issue ‘appalling’, but its attack on the company doesn’t stop there:
‘From the outside, Valve appears to be more concerned with generating millions in revenue every month via in-game microtransactions, rather than maintaining a product that should work as expected,’ the petition says.
Valve addressed a similar issue in Team Fortress 2 back in 2022, saying it was ‘working to improve things,’ but fans claim this didn’t help.

The petition calls for all Team Fortress 2 fans to sign the declaration and share any evidence they have of the aimbot issue on social media.
Despite being 17 years old, Team Fortress 2 still has a very active player-base, with 93,000 concurrent players this past Sunday.
‘Team Fortress 2 is not dying, it is being intentionally killed,’ the petition concludes.
