Bridgerton has become a source of inspiration for a fan event in Final Fantasy 14 and there’s even a surprise official connection.

Final Fantasy 14 may be an MMO, rather than a single-player game, but it’s still one of the most succesful titles in the series’ history, and is arguably more popular now than when it first launched over a decade ago.

Over that time, the game has been supported with four major expansion packs, with the fifth, titled Dawntrail, set to be released in July. While the ongoing storylines are part of the appeal there’s also plenty of opportunities for players to make their own fun.

That’s encapsulated in a fan-made event dedicated entirely to Netflix series Bridgerton, which has seen players dress up in their finest Regency era gowns and create their own narratives for the virtual cosplay.

The seven day event was created by Twitter user VillainValntine and is divided across separate days for balls, promenades, and picnics. The last day on Friday June 7 is dedicated entirely to ‘Scandal’, a key cornerstone of Bridgerton itself.

Among all the fancy outfits and carefully framed screenshots on the hashtag #FFXIVBridgerton on Twitter, one player has even created a version of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, which is used to spread gossip in the show and books.

Surprisingly, there is a connection between Final Fantasy 14 and Bridgerton. Actor Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony in the show, also voices fan favourite character G’raha Tia in Final Fantasy 14.

He’ll also be part of the Dawntrail expansion, so that means he was working on both the game and the show at the same time.

While it doesn’t offer quite the same level of flexibility, players were also getting creative with the piano in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth earlier this year, with covers of My Chemical Romance and themes from Zelda.

As for the future of Final Fantasy, there’s rumours Square Enix could make an announcement about Final Fantasy 16 at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.
