Avalanche Software has shown off a free update coming to Hogwarts Legacy, which includes a quest previously locked to the PS5 version.
Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, so it’s perhaps surprising that there hasn’t been a substantial update since it launched in February last year.
That’s finally about to change, with a summer update on Thursday, June 6. While it doesn’t include any significant new additions to extend the game’s lifespan, for those who have completed everything, it does add some highly-requested features.
As shown in a new video, the update’s headline feature is a photo mode, complete with character poses and a variety of editing tools to capture Hogwarts from the best angle.
A welcome improvement is the ability to reset Talent points, at the cost of 200 gold per point. Also, the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest, which was previously exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version, will now be available across PC, Xbox and Switch.
Elsewhere in the update, there’s some minor cosmetic additions, including Harry Potter’s glasses, an Azkaban prisoner’s outfit, a new Lavender Borealis broom, a Felix Felicis potion recipe, and the Onyx Hippogriff mount.
It’s unclear whether Hogwarts Legacy will receive a story expansion in the future. Back in February last year, the game’s director said there were no plans for DLC, but after selling over 22 million copies those plans might have changed.
Warner Bros. has said it sees Hogwarts Legacy as a ‘long-term franchise’, which suggests it might just get the sequel treatment. Although that’s going to take some time to come to happen.

What’s awkward about Hogwarts Legacy is that, as a big budget single-player game, it flies in the face of Warner’s stated plans to concentrate on live service titles in the future.
Whether they’d be mad enough to not bother with a Hogwarts Legacy 2, or significantly alter its approach, is unclear but in corporate terms its success is peculiarly awkward.
In the meantime, the company has another Harry Potter project in the works, titled Quidditch Champions, although a release date has yet to be announced.
