The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson told Good Morning Britain hosts that she would love to be on Netflix’s steamy regency romance Bridgerton.

‘I want to be on Bridgerton,’ she said emphatically to host Susanna Reid, ‘Susanna lets go on Bridgerton.’

‘Well I’ll tell you what you’re more likely to get onto Bridgerton now you’ve said that!’ Susanna replied.

Ferguson continued with a cheeky smile: ‘I think Lady Penelope should have a friend whose got red hair like me!’

‘Well let’s get in touch with Shonda Rimes and get you on there!’ Susanna responded with obvious surprise.

Ferguson laughed: ‘Don’t you think? I’m putting it out there!’

After the part one finale of the latest season of the hit show – complete with a raunchy carriage scene that got everyone talking – the next batch of episodes will continue to follow the journey of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after their romantic tension finally came to a head.

Ferguson’s comment on Bridgerton was a lighthearted moment in an on otherwise serious interview in which the Duchess reflected on her battle with cancer.

The Duchess was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer and later had a mastectomy to address it.

During later reconstructive surgery, she had several moles taken off and tested, and one was confirmed to be contain cancer cells.

The last official update on her health came in January when a spokesperson said she was still ‘undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages.’

During the interview, the Duchess said she’s now doing ‘really well.’

She also discussed her mastectomy and the importance of early detection, urging viewers to go and get mammograms regularly.

She went on to discuss how her diagnosis has led her to be more present in the moment.

‘I threw myself into writing, and I threw myself into seeking support,’ she said of the vulnerable time.

She also discussed the reported tension between her ex-husband Prince Andrew and King Charles for the first time, saying: ‘I tend not to get involved in brothers’ discussions and I think that’s the safest place to be.’
