Whatever you think of Will Smith, there’s no denying that when it comes to the box office, he is king.

And, looking at his astronomical box office figures which have gone viral on social media this week, that couldn’t be more true.

The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor, 55, sits among a very exclusive group of Hollywood icons who are considered the most supreme action heroes, from Tom Cruise to Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Many predicted Will’s career would be over when he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022 but he’s making a big blockbuster comeback this week with the release of Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, the fourth sequel in the long-running franchise.

The action-packed caper is receiving rave reviews from critics and it looks like Will has another summer hit on his hands.

Social media users have been circulating a screenshot of how much each of Will’s biggest movies grossed at the worldwide box office over the past 30 years – and it’s safe to say he’s really made bank.

It should come as no surprise that a Disney film is the one to pass the billion-dollar threshold, with 2019’s Aladdin grossing an eye-watering $1,054,000,000. It was a risky move starring in a remake of the Disney classic, especially when replacing the role of Genie originally played by the late, great Robin Williams, but it’s literally paid off.

Will’s second highest-grossing film is the iconic 1994 disaster flick Independence Day which has frankly stood the test of time. Boasting a star-studded cast including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid and Vivica A Fox, it’s easy to see why that pulled in $817.4billion.

Getting a bite of the superhero apple was a good move for Will as 2016’s Suicide Squad earned $749million at the global box office.

Men In Black 3, released in 2012, scooped in a healthy $654m followed by the original 1997 instalment and end-of-the-world classic I Am Legend, which raked in a respective $589m and $585m.

It means Will is among a small group of actors with at least eight consecutive movies that made more than $100m.

The screenshot which has been doing the rounds was shared by X user MyMixtapez with the caption: ‘Will Smith is the only actor in the history of Hollywood to have 8 consecutive films make more than $100 million in the box office.’

Reacting to the tweet, one fan hailed Will as the ‘Messi of the film industry’ while @Awesome_Andre36 said: ‘That makes sense he’s the only “mega star”.’

Even Nick Cannon was impressed and commented: ‘Put some respect on his name! The OG @willsmith is the goat,’ while Marlon Wayans simply said: ‘Beast.’

Reminding everyone of Will’s status as king of the summer blockbuster, @BurakkuFlash wrote: ‘I mean. He was called Mr 4th of July. He wrote a song about Summer time and then went on to own that time period in the Movie Theaters lol.’

With those staggering box office figures, you can understand why Will previously admitted his devastation that I Am Legend took time to break the $100m mark, opening to ‘just’ $77m in its opening weekend.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Conversation in 2021, he said: ‘I’m excited for 30 seconds, and then my mind drifts and I say to J [manager James Lassiter], “Hey, why do you think we missed 80?”. He said, “What?” And I said, “No, it was 77, do you think if we would have adjusted the ending? Because I wanted the ending to feel more like Gladiator.’

The actor recalled: ‘He’s like, “It’s the biggest opening in history, ever. What are you talking about?’ I’m like, “J, I get that, I’m just asking why do you think we missed the 80?”’

‘It’s the only time he ever hung up on me,’ he said.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, which reunites Will with co-star Martin Lawrence, is out in cinemas now.
