James May has become the victim of his own success and has been forced to axe his TV show.

In Oh Cook! James documented his journey as his cooking skills went from abysmal to satisfactory, and finally, pretty damn good.

The two series of the Amazon Prime Video show have made the The Grand Tour star an accomplished cook in four short years.

The whole concept of Oh Cook!, which was a play on his famous catchphrase – Oh c**k, was James, 61, receiving tutition as he is hopeless with an oven.

At first, he tried to get a grip on the basics including lasagne, fish pie, and a full Sunday roast for the whole crew’s lunch was his final hurdle in the first offering. Having gained his confidence in the kitchen, for the second season he tried his hand at Japanese food, vegan delights, and even made dishes for a 70s themed-party.

Off the back of the programme, the TV star even released a cookbook, which has become a best-seller.

James released his own cookbook

‘It was a totally fresh concept that viewers lapped up, as usually cooking series are presented by professional chefs,’ a source told The Sun.

‘But after two seasons, James is now quite a good cook, so it’s not a gag he can continue to flog.’

While he may be hanging up his chef hat on TV, it’s not the end of the road with Amazon as he will continue to explore the globe in travelogue James May: Our Main in… He’s already embraced local culture in Japan, Italy and India, and the world is quite literally his Oyster with Amazon budget.

Of course, there’s the bread and butter – The Grand Tour, which he presents with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

The former Top Gear hosts have starred on the motoring show since 2016, and their special in Zimbawe is set to air towards the end of this year.

The series will end after the conclusion of the fifth series, but the trio, who’ve worked together since 2002 could be back together once more.

‘I wouldn’t rule it out,’ said James. Although, he quickly added: ‘But you do have to bear in mind that we’re all getting on a bit.’
