After years of nothing, there’s growing evidence to suggest we’re finally about to get another glimpse at the Hollow Knight sequel.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has become one of the most anticipated sequels in recent memory, to the point where every games presentation is flooded with unfounded hope of another look at the title.

We last saw footage of the sequel in June 2022 at the Xbox Games Showcase, where it was billed as being released within the following 12 months. Obviously that didn’t happen, with developer Team Cherry confirming it had been delayed in May last year.

We’ve heard nothing since then but all eyes are now on the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, after a prominent leaker indicated it will finally be shown for the first time in two years.

On Thursday, leaker eXtas1s shared artwork of Silksong with the phrase ‘tick tock’ alongside a watch and green and orange heart emojis – implying that an update is imminent.

While it’s not explicit, the green emoji suggests a possible appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, which makes sense as that’s where it last appeared two years ago.

eXtas1s has a good track record for leaks. In recent months, he’s correctly leaked the Hellblade 2 release date and the existence of an Octopath Traveler 2 port for Xbox. They also outed plans for a white digital Xbox Series X earlier this year, which is also expected to be announced at the showcase.

The timing also feels right for another glimpse at Silksong. Earlier this year, the sequel was officially rated in Australia and Korea, which usually means it’s only a few months away from release.

If you’re expecting a shadow drop though, you might be disappointed. The same leaker has claimed Silksong will not get a surprise release at the event.

Rumours this week have suggested that something will be getting a shadow drop at the showcase but eXtas1s hints that it will not be a game, but instead the Starfield Creation Kit modding tool.

On Twitter, the leaker posted ‘Xbox showcase shadowdrop hint’ with two images. The first is a poster from the 2009 film Creation, while the second is an image of a kitten – which some have deduced as relating to the Starfield Creation Kit.

In April this year, Bethesda’s Todd Howard teased that an announcement regarding the Starfield Creation Kit would be made ‘soon’. ‘We’ve delivered it to some people, [to] some of our creators for Starfield,’ Howard said on Kinda Funny Games regarding the Creation Kit.

‘You’re going to hear some information about that soon. ‘[We] don’t have a date to announce when the full release is coming, but it’s really important to us. Our modders out there have been incredible.’

While it’s perhaps not the most exciting shadow drop, Xbox is expected to highlight Starfield in a significant way at the event – especially with its first expansion, Shattered Space, set to come out this autumn.

Many other titles are also rumoured for the Xbox Games Showcase this Sunday, including Gears Of War 6 and Doom: The Dark Ages.
