Ruth Langsford is reportedly ‘taking a break’ from Loose Women amid her divorce from Eamonn Holmes.

The 64-year-old presenter and her husband, also 64, recently confirmed they have separated after 27 years together – including 14 years of marriage – and are now going through the next stages of their split.

It’s claimed Ruth is now looking at an extended break from her Loose Women commitments for the rest of June, with plans to return to the ITV show in July.

A source told the Mirror that she is ‘hurt’ in the wake of their breakup – including details of his friendship with apparent friendship with a relationship counsellor he met several years ago before growing close last year.

‘Ruth was hurt when she learned about Eamonn’s friendship with another woman but she is strong and she will be back soon with a smile on her face, putting her best foot forward, as she always does,’ they told the newspaper.

The counsellor is not said to be a reason for the marriage breakdown.

Meanwhile, although Ruth needs some time away, she is set to be back on screen next month with ‘renewed vigour’.

The insider added: ‘She needs a bit of time to regroup after everything that’s gone on, which is understandable, but she plans to return to Loose Women, with renewed vigour, in July.’

After the couple, and former This Morning co stars, had not been photographed together for two years, a statement was released last month about their marriage break-down.

They said in a statement at the time: ‘Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.’

Sources claimed to the publication that their work commitments ‘took them in different directions’ as they drifted apart in recent months, but they were determined to remain friends and ‘keep things amicable’.

However, later reports alleged that Eamonn had no clue the statement was being released, and learnt it was going public just a few hours earlier.

‘Eamonn was left blindsided, it was awful for him,’ one of his friends told the Daily Mail.

‘He literally found out about it a very short time before it was published – you’re talking hours. It all seems a little bizarre given that the statement said they were hoping to keep it amicable.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted representatives for Loose Women and Ruth Langsford for comment.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV1.
