Constantina Dimoglidou, a senior spokesperson for the Greek Police, said: ‘He was at the beach of Ag. Nikolas with another couple when he decided to go back to his home in the area of Pedi of Symi… and he forgot his phone at the beach. Any and every attempt to track him down has not produced any result.’
Locals, however, have described is as ‘pretty difficult’ to get lost in ‘even…the most remote areas’ of Symi.
A source familiar with the locale told PA: ‘I’m having trouble understanding how you could get lost.’
Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, the mayor of Symi, said it would be ‘impossible’ for Dr Mosley to be in the same area of Symi as it is ‘a very small, controlled area, full of people.
‘So if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now,’ he continued.
Fell from a height
Mr Papakalodoukas told LBC that Dr Mosley may have fainted and ‘fallen from a height’ due to high temperatures.

He said the hike would have been dangerous, as temperatures reached 35C on Wednesday.
If he did not have water with him, the risk of dehydration would be heightened as he hiked through the rocky terrain and ‘very high cliffs’ from St Nicholas Beach to Pedi.
‘We have looked everywhere but we can’t find him,’ he said.
A yellow weather warning was in place in Symi on Wednesday, adding to concerns.
Fell into the sea
Divers have joined police, firefighters, and volunteers to search for Dr Mosley amid fears he could have fallen into the sea.

The Telegraph reports more than 30 coastguard personally were involved in the search, as well as divers said to be ‘looking in the water’.
Deputy mayor Illias Chaskas told BBC News they were ‘looking everywhere’ for the father of four, with Mr Papakalodoukas saying the search operation’s focus had to ‘turn to the sea.’
Suffered a heart attack or an injury
Another early theory in Dr Mosley’s disappearance in that he sustained an injury or suffered a heart attack.
A police source told the Daily Mail: ‘He may have slipped and fallen, perhaps because of a heart attack along the way. Nothing at this stage can be ruled out.’
Dimoglidou told the publication that Dr Mosley could have ‘even been bitten by a snake.’
‘He may have slipped, tripped, fallen, even been bitten by a snake, remaining injured somewhere,’ he said.
‘There is just no trace of him. None whatsoever. And that means that for us at least, every potential scenario is open and being investigated.’
