The final post that Dr Michael Mosley shared on Instagram before his death saw him try to continue to help people lead healthier lives.

On Sunday June 9, it was confirmed that Dr Mosley had died at the age of 67 after a body was found in a search that’s been taking place for several days.

The TV doctor initially went missing on Wednesday June 5, while on holiday on the Greek island of Symi with his wife Dr Clare Bailey.

After his body was discovered and confirmed to be him by police, his wife Dr Bailey released a statement paying heartfelt tribute to her husband, who she married in 1987 and with whom she had four children.

In her statement, she said: ‘I don’t know quite where to begin with this. It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband.

‘We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.

On the day that he disappeared, Dr Mosley shared a post on Instagram promoting his BBC Radio 4 series, Just One Thing.

He wrote in the caption: ‘If time is tight, what’s the one thing that you should be doing to improve your health and wellbeing?

‘In my Just One Thing series with @bbcradio4 I explore the surprisingly simple top tips that are scientifically proven to change your life. Listen to the latest episodes on BBC iPlayer.’

In the comments underneath the post, several of his followers expressed their heartbreak and their hope that he’ll rest in peace.

One fan called Gayle wrote: ‘Rest in peace Michael, thank you for your wealth of knowledge and kind heart.’

Another going by the handle @yooneeyak shared: ‘Totally sad to hear the news that Dr Mosley’s body has been found. I’ve never been sad about the death of famous person who I’d never met before until now.

‘A few months ago my son aged 14 introduced me to Dr Mosley’s Just One Thing podcasts and I’ve been listening to them while I was I sew. His manner and warmth shone through and I feel like I knew him well. Like a lovely cousin or something.

‘His subject matter was the spark for many conversations in our house for the last few months and my son and I would compare which ipodcats we’d listened to and suggest other one. Do Mosley will be sadly missed in our house. Our thoughts go out to his wife and children. ❤️’

AJ added: ‘This is so tragic. Bless you and your family and thank you for everything that you have done for the nation’s health and beyond. Your legacy lives on.’

In the statement that Dr Mosley’s wife Dr Bailey released, she said that their family were ‘taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it’.

‘He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team. Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special,’ she said.

Dr Bailey said that the family are ‘so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi’ who worked ‘tirelessly’ to help find him from dawn until dusk.

‘I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. Thank-you all,’ she wrote.
