Obsidian leaks Avowed release date ahead of new update-GameCentral-Entertainment – Metro

Avowed – looks like it may be Xbox’s last release of the year (Xbox Game Studios)

Although it wasn’t mentioned during the Xbox Games Showcase, the developer seems to have accidentally revealed exactly when Avowed is out.

As with any modern games event the PlayStation State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and Xbox Games Showcase were subject to numerous rumours, most of which turned out to be true. Although that wasn’t too surprising as some of them were spoiled by the companies themselves.

2K accidentally revealed Civilization 7 before it was supposed to, Slitterhead got its trailer posted early, and now Obsidian appears to have confirmed the exactly release date of Avowed – which at the time was only given a vague timeframe of sometime this year.

According to a reference in one of their own blog posts, Avowed is going to be out on November 12. The confirmation seems to have been a mistake though, as it was then quickly edited out of the blog.

It’s not clear why anyone is being secretive about the date, especially if it has been decided upon, but Avowed has had curiously little promotion ever since its announcement.

It will be featured during the Xbox podcast tonight but there’s going to be watched by far less people than the showcase and you really would’ve thought, since it’s out this year, that it would’ve been featured more prominently.

Perhaps the release date isn’t actually a definite but if it is announced during the podcast, and it is November, that will be strange.

Very weird. They immediately removed the Avowed release date after I posted this. Before and after pics attached. pic.twitter.com/vfH9QVlwzo

Avowed was first announced back in 2020 and is the first game to be developed since Microsoft bought Obsidian. When it was first announced it seemed to be a pretty blatant Skyrim clone, but that was before Microsoft bought Bethesda.

It’s not clear if and to what degree it was redesigned after that fact, but it was subsequently revealed that Avowed is set in the same universe as Obsidian’s Pillars Of Eternity, from 2015.

As the creators of Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian is one of the most respected Western role-playing developers in the world but they’re also supposed to be working on The Outer Worlds 2, which was announced in 2021 and has never been seen again.

At the time it was implied to be out relatively soon, but it seems that its development was put on the backburner in favour of Avowed.

It’s not clear that Obsidian is a big enough studio to have two major projects going on at the same time, especially as they’re still working on live service title Grounded – which was recently released on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch – and smaller titles such as the acclaimed Pentiment.

Avowed – it still looks a lot like Skyrim (Xbox Game Studios)
