This Morning has a new face joining the team and they’ve been described as the ‘perfect’ fit.

The ITV daytime show said goodbye to Sian Welby on Monday’s episode as the pregnant star is going on maternity leave, but she’s found the ideal replacement for her showbiz recaps on the programme.

She joined hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley on the sofa, and admitted she wanted to leave the segment ‘in good hands’.

‘I know that showbiz needs to be left in good hands. Somebody who deals with showbiz every morning,’ she teased, joking it was ‘the handover of all handovers’.

‘I really think that this is the perfect guy for the job. I work with him every day, and he’s fantastic,’ she added, before revealing her Capital Breakfast co-host Jordan North is joining This Morning.

He came out to sit with Sian, Ben and Cat, and quipped that she ‘put a good word in’ to land him the role.

Ben jokingly told him he was ‘just keeping the seat warm,’ and Jordan teased: ‘I’m just the supply teacher!’

Sian is clearly delighted her friend is stepping in for her while she’s off air, and she said: ‘I’m so glad it’s Jordan!’

Jordan first rose to fame on BBC Radio 1, eventually landing his own weekend show in September 2020, before finishing as the runner-up on I’m A Celebrity a couple of months later.

Back in February, he moved on from the BBC, joining Capital FM as Roman Kemp’s replacement alongside Sian on the breakfast show.

The This Morning announcement comes four months after Sian excitedly broke the news of her pregnancy live on the radio and confirmed she and partner Jake Beckett are set to welcome a new arrival.

She said: ‘I’ve got a bit of an announcement for you! I’m pregnant! I don’t know how I’ve managed to keep it from you for so long. It’s not a joke, it’s not a joke!’

Her former co-star Roman Kemp jumped up in surprise and rushed to hug her, as she said: ‘The lies, the deceit, the mocktails! The stress I’ve gone through trying to pretend not to be drinking.’

She added: ‘I couldn’t wait to tell you. This is a whole new journey for me and I want to take you all on it with me, and don’t worry I’m not going anywhere!

‘This is going to be a lot of fun and I can’t wait to share it with you all.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
