Activision is radioing in: Black Ops 6 will be big, but not that big (Activision)

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 won’t need 300GB of hard drive space to install after all, but Activision won’t say just how big it will be.

Developer Treyarch showed off Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase this weekend, and although it looks very impressive it also revealed that you’ll need an online connection for all game modes.

Not long after the reveal, fans noticed that the Black Ops 6 listing on the Xbox store page stated that the download size was a towering 309GB.

Many were understandably worried for their hard drives, but Activision has reassured everyone that won’t be the actual download size, although they haven’t said what it will be instead.

It’s the Call Of Duty Updates Twitter account that has come forward, stating:

‘Correction: The estimated file size currently displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.

‘The sizes as shown include the full installations of Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Warzone, and all relevant content packs, including all localized languages combined which is not representative of a typical player install experience.’

It goes on to say that Black Ops 6 will be downloadable without owning the previous games, and that ‘the actual estimation of the Black Ops 6 file size will be available closer to launch.’

Call Of Duty titles are notoriously big in storage size, with last year’s Modern Warfare 3 topping its predecessors at up to 200GB, while Warzone requires 125GB of space.

Increasingly, big games can be a problem for fans, especially console gamers, who likely only have 1TB of storage (500GB if you have an Xbox Series S).

Black Ops 6 might not be 300GB, but it’s unclear whether it’ll be less or more than Modern Warfare 3.

The reason given for Black Ops 6 being online-only is that it’s constantly streaming textures and other data online, so that it doesn’t have to rely on a massive install.

That won’t take into account subsequent downloadable content from season updates though, so we’ll see how big it ends up in the end.
