Women have just realised why there’s a little pocket in their underwear and the reason is blowing their minds

HAVE you ever looked down while getting dressed and realised there’s a little pocket inside your underwear?

Well it turns out you’re not alone and many women have been left stunned after realising there’s actually a purpose for them.

Shockingly the small pocket isn’t used for hiding small items inside.

In fact, it’s actually there to protect your body.

It turns out that the secret compartment is actually for hygiene purposes and the proper word for it is a ‘gusset.’

But what does it do?

Lots of underwear is made from synthetic material and lace, which can aggravate the skin especially in more delicate parts.

So the gusset, which is usually made from moisture-wicking breathable fabric such as cotton helps keep the genitals dry and ventilated.

Cotton is highly absorbent and prevent friction as well as reducing the risk of infection.

Synthetic materials you often find on satin or lace undies don’t provide protection against rubbing, sweat and bacteria, so the cotton insert is vital.

And the news that they provide vital protection has left people baffled.

One person on X, formerly Twitter, said: “I have been wondering the same thing for years!

“And I have been wearing them every day!”

Another added: “Cool! Learn something new every day.”

“iPod holder, got it,” joked a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “I discovered that the lil pocket in your underwear is called a gusset and I am very unsettled by that word.”

And they aren’t the only ones to be blown away by the feature, Stacey Solomon was left baffled over the “secret noonie pockets” she discovered in all of her underwear.

Taking to her Instagram story, the mum-of-three posted a video of her swimming costume, pointing out the small insert in the lining of her pants.

Speaking in the video, she asked: “I have been putting away my washing and I just have to know this.

“I am going to use my swimming costume because no one want to see the inside of my knickers, but on the inside of my knickers there is a secret pocket right on the noonie.

“Like a secret noonie compartment. What is it for? Am I missing out on something? Should I be putting something in there?

“I just need to know what it’s for, why is it on every single pair? What does it mean?”

In her final clip, Stacey can be seen jokingly slipping mini Daim bars into the “noonie pocket.”

She joked: “No matter what this secret noonie pocket is for, I know exactly what’s going in mine. I’ve got a noonie Daim bar stash.”
