Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has revealed the moment she thought her late sister Bernie had sent her a sign at night.
The 59-year-old singer and TV star was discussing ‘spooky’ experiences on the ITV panel, when she recalled one night that left her convinced her sister’s ghost had been present.
The eldest Nolan sister Bernie died in 2013 aged 52 after battling breast cancer.
Speaking to Linda Robson, Olivia Attwood and Charlene White, Coleen explained: ‘It’s the anniversary of Bernie’s death on July 4, so I did a big post about her, and that night when I went to bed at 2.30am, I was woken by the most incredible smell of perfume.
‘Enough to physically wake me out of my sleep, and I thought, “What is that?”‘
Coleen went on: ‘It lasted about five minutes and then it went away.
‘I phoned my sister the next day, because it’s never happened to me before and never happened since, and I phoned my sister and said, “What perfume did Bernie wear?” because I couldn’t remember.
‘She told me, and I think it was that perfume.’

Marking the anniversary seven years after Bernie died, Coleen paid an emotional tribute to her sister ahead of a family TV series, filming them heading off on a European cruise adventure.
‘The thing is we talk about Bernie all the time on the cruise, actually,’ she told her Loose Women pals.
‘Everywhere we got off, every laugh we had, we’d go “oh Bernie would love this” or “Bernie would say this”, or, you know, “Bernie would be having a go at us”.
‘We talk about her a lot and you know you try and not let it become just sadness all the time, because she would hate that.’

‘She was the life and soul, she was the party goer and she was very family orientated. So we always try and remember her in a lovely way and it’s great because it still feels like she’s… I felt like she was on the cruise with us, when we were all together,’ Coleen said.
Coleen’s sister Linda, who announced in March 2023 that her breast cancer diagnosis had spread to her brain and that she’s preparing ‘for the inevitable’, has also shared an experience she thought she had with Bernie after she died.
In an interview last year, Linda, 65, explained that she no longer fears death because Bernie visited her in a dream.
‘What happens when you die is a frightening thought,’ she said.
She continued to Best Magazine (via The Mirror): ‘I was really scared that first night. But I dreamt of Bernie all night a few days later.
‘We were laughing hysterically like we used to and we were sorting my will.

‘It was “give that one this, give that one that” – when I woke up, I wasn’t frightened any more. Can you believe that’s how I feel?’
Bernie announced her breast cancer diagnosis in 2010, before sharing she was cancer-free after a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
In 2012, she revealed she was no longer taking cancer treatment drugs, but just months later her cancer returned. She died aged 52 in July 2013.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
