‘Oooh no please take that off’ plead fashion fans as football WAG brings back noughties trend and ‘makes it summer’
A FOOTBALLER’S fiancee has divided opinion after bringing a noughties fashion trend back for her summer holiday wardrobe.
Jilly Cross, from Glasgow, is engaged to ex-Rangers and current Motherwell star Andy Halliday.

She regularly shares her outfit choices and shopping hauls with her army of followers on social media (@jillyisabella).
In a recent clip, she matched a crochet mini dress with a pastel yellow shirt and A crochet beanie hat to go for a meal in Mallorca, Spain.
Captioning her post, she said: “I said beanie, but make it summer.”
She also fashioned a bright red one with a matching top and champagne satin midi skirt for another night out.
Regardless of the weather, the crochet beanie often completed the look of denim shorts, low-rise jeans or micro skirts alongside a tight top and leather jacket in the noughties.
It adorned the heads of some of the biggest icons of the time including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan.
Even Justin Timberlake was a fan of the trend, sporting a neutral toned one at an awards gala in 2002.
And if fashion influencer Jilly is any indication, the crochet beanie could be making a return for summer 2024.
But people have been left seriously divided over the potential return of the noughties accessory, with Jilly’s holiday outfit clip racking up almost 100,000 views
“Love u gal but that hat is a riot”, claimed one person.
A second joked: “My granny used to put one of them on her teapot I’m sure!”
“Sorry Jilly but did your beanie come filled with tangerines?” questioned a third.
A fourth echoed: “Love your outfits but the beanie looks like the netting a pear comes in from whole foods.”
A fifth said: “Outfit is fab but I am HEAVILY questioning the hat choice. Love you Jilly but it’s a no from me.”
Meanwhile, a sixth pleaded: “Oooh no please take that off.”
But Jilly, who has her own fashion brand Dula, took the hate in her stride as she joked: “Troops has a knitted beanie beat yous up before??? We’re all very hurt by this fashion choice.
“It’s ok, I think you might grow to like it.”
And it would appear some fashion fans are already fully on board with the beanie’s return.
One gushed: “I am OBSESSED with the hat. As a beanie girl, I need this for the summer.”

A second chimed in: “I need that hat immediately.”
A third wrote: “Omg this outfit gives me Lindsay Lohan in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen! And I LOVE IT.”
“Loving the beanie, stunning”, said a fourth.
A fifth added: “Jilly I feel like we had a similar chat about crocs many years ago , but somehow you’re going to have every girl wearing one of these and I’m not ready for it.”
“You look great in anything. Love how you set trends and don’t follow them”, said someone else.
All the 90s trends that are making a comeback
WE might be in 2024, but fashion fans are looking to the past when it comes to new styles. So what trends from the 90s are making a comeback these days?
Claw clips
These hair accessories were a huge trend back in the 90s, but are now most popular among those trying out the “clean girl” aesthetic. Designers such as Prada have released their own versions, while there are thousands of colours and styles to choose from on the high street.
Platform flip flops
Again a popular choice among fashionistas in the 90s, these heels have made a comeback with designers such as Balenciaga trying their luck with their own styles.
Cargo pants
Once worn by the stars of All Saints, cargo pants became a popular trend for teens in the 90s. But they’ve now had a fashion overhaul, with stars such as Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber all putting their own spin on the trend.
Jeans and a nice top
It was the phrase that defined fashion for a decade, and now famous faces such as Sofia Richie are sporting the reinvented trend – pairing their own denims with a more sophisticated top. But are you willing to dig your jeans and nice tops out of the wardrobe for a second time?
