Jeremy Clarkson has addressed the horrific video circulating on social media showing a baby cow being hit by a police car twice.

The 10-month-old calf, called Beau Lucy, had been roaming the streets of Surrey loose on Friday night, when police rammed into the animal, sending it flying across the road, before trapping it underneath the car.

Video footage has caused outrage online, with the likes of Chris Packham blasting the incident and the ‘monster’ involved, and now Jeremy has followed suit.

The Clarkson’s Farm star wrote on X: ‘I will vote for any party which stops the police from running over cows.’

Replying to one person’s comment about telling Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about his X post ‘next time you pop around for a chat’, Jeremy added: ‘Never met him but if I do, I’ll be sure to bring it up.’

‘Sickening footage,’ X user @tz2519 added, while @LeilaniDowding wrote: ‘Good. That was absolutely horrifying and sickening to see what they did.’

Since Clarkson’s Farm premiered in 2021, which follows the former Top Gear star’s antics on his Diddly Squat farm in Oxfordshire, Jeremy has spoken out about animal welfare.

Recently, he revealed how heartbroken he was after his pigs died in ‘alarming numbers’ on the farm ahead of the third season airing, saying: ‘You don’t say, “Let’s buy some pigs and hope they die,” I’ve always liked pigs.’

‘My mother used to buy me toy pigs every Christmas and birthdays,’ he went on, recalling his ‘fondness’ for pigs.

‘I thought it would be fun to have them, and then they just died in alarming numbers.’

‘It was very heart-breaking, I’d never ever seen Lisa [cry], not once ever, until that all started.

‘It was just terrible. I mean they still die, but we’re getting more used to it now, we’re a bit more robust.’

He added: ‘We’re a bit stronger at dealing with it now. But it was a very heart-breaking time.’

Elsewhere in the series, a heartwarming moment occurred when Jeremy was reunited with an animal he had sent to slaughter after promising a five-year-old to protect in an earlier season.

Emotional scenes saw Jeremy’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan left in absolute shock as she was reunited with a cow named Pepper, while also being introduced to her calf Tabatha.

‘We haven’t seen her for a year,’ Jeremy explained to the cameras before pointing out the new addition too.

As was explained to Jeremy and Lisa by breeder Tim Hogan, Pepper had fallen pregnant soon after they had sold her, which saved her from being killed.

When making the decision to sell his cows due to not being able to afford to keep them after being forced to shut his restaurant down by the council and losing the outlet to sell them, in the first episode of the season Jeremy had said he was ‘really quite sad’.

‘I’m finding today really quite sad as for the last year I’ve been opening the windows, opening the curtains in the morning and there are the cows. And I love that. Making cow noises. It just cheers my heart every morning to see them,’ he added at the time.

An update on the condition of the calf who was hit on the streets of Staines-upon-Thames in Surrey on Friday night has also been shared, after police rammed into her twice.

The man who witnessed police hitting her said she was left with an ‘open gash’ and ‘loads of grazes where the skin had come off’ after being struck, while viewers blasted the police involved.

Springwatch star Chris said on X: ‘I don’t know where to start with this.

‘But it’s surely illegal and must be investigated and prosecuted. What sort of monster rams a calf? Twice?’

Surrey Police said the cow was running loose throughout the evening on a number of main roads.

The force were responding after being alerted by calls reporting that a car had been damaged and the animal was running at members of the public.

Officers were extremely concerned about the public’s safety, and over a period of a number of hours tried a number of options to safely capture the cow, the force said.

The police then decided to use the police car to stop the cow, and the force said the matter had been referred to its Professional Standards Department.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has also been notified and a voluntary referral will be made in due course, the spokesman added.

The owner has been located and a vet has looked at the cow’s injuries.

Luckily, she’s suffered no broken bones, but was ‘really agitated’ and ‘scared’when she returned to the farm, with fears she could die of shock though she has since calmed down, according to the partner of the farmer who owns her.

Clarkson’s Farm is available to watch on Amazon Prime.
