WWE boss Triple H is ‘hoping’ for some good news after Damian Priest suffered a brutal injury in the middle of the Clash At The Castle main event.

The World Heavyweight Champion scored a controversial win over hometown hero Drew McIntyre in Glasgow after the Scottish Warrior’s rivals CM Punk injected himself into the match and cost him the victory.

Midway through the bout, Priest ran to dive over the top rope to the outside of the ring, only to get his foot tangled up in the ropes, leaving him hanging as his head look to hit the side.

With the camera focused on McIntyre for a minute or two, the referee tried to free the Archer of Infamy from the ropes, but he was stuck there as fans started to worry for his safety.

Speaking to media including Metro.co.uk at the post show press conference, Triple H – real name Paul Levesque – was glad Priest finished the match, but admitted he could still be badly hurt with ‘adrenaline carrying him through’.

He said: ‘When I saw that happen to Damian, my heart jumped out of my chest. I didn’t see any way that he wasn’t injured. When I got word that he was fine, which adrenaline is a helluva drug.

‘I’m really hoping I will get good news. Because while he is walking around okay now, I’m sure adrenaline is carrying him through that.’

Also speaking to the press, Priest himself revealed his leg felt like ‘trash’, but he was still bragging about his victory on a night where almost everyone expected McIntyre to get crowned champion in front of his family and friends.

‘It feels like trash now. I didn’t even go to medical yet so I could do this and answer your questions so you’re welcome. Docs will check it out but I mean, I ain’t going anywhere,’ he claimed.

He added: ‘I was able to beat Drew McIntyre with one foot, so I’m pretty sure I’m all good to go.’

The bout sparked plenty of controversy, with Punk replacing the referee late in the match, refusing to count to three for his rival, and then kicking him in the crotch to cost him his big moment.

Footage after the match showing McIntyre raging and swearing, threatening referees and commentators until Wade Barrett – his longtime friend – led him away.

The Preston-born retired wrestler turned commentator described the situation as ‘f****** bulls***’, and called for Punk to be ‘fired’ over the incident.

‘CM Punk needs to be fired by WWE management. For once, show some balls. Do what you’re supposed to do. This is a guy who was not medically cleared to be in contact with any wrestler,’ he ranted.

‘He has now materially affected the outcome of two heavyweight championship matches. You guys need to do something about it. Restore some honor, some integrity to this issue.’

‘I hope CM is long gone because if he’s not, there’s going to be hell to pay,’ he added. ‘That guy needs to be fired. He is a disgrace.’

Elsewhere on the show, hometown heroes Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre captured the Women’s Tag Team Titles just weeks after Fyre’s mother died in a car crash.

Their fellow Scottish wrestler Piper Niven came up short against Bayley in a fantastic bout for the WWE Women’s Championship, while Intercontinental Champ Sami Zayn and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes both retained against Chad Gable and AJ Styles respectively.

Clash At The Castle: Scotland is available to stream on demand via the WWE Network. WWE 2K24 is available now.
