Dua Lipa has revealed that she is proud to use her platform to support the ceasefire in Gaza as it’s for ‘the greater good.’

The British-Albanian singer, 28, is set to headline Glastonbury for the first time this month and perform her best hits on Friday night on the Pyramid stage.

The singer, best known for her hit songs Dance The Night, Houdini, and Levitating, has been outspoken about her support for Gaza in recent months.

The star has used her platform and social media channels to call for a ceasefire and express her grief for the ‘unprecedented suffering in Gaza.’ She also joined those condemning the Israeli bombing of a Rafah refugee camp.

In an interview ahead of her mainstage appearance at one of the biggest festivals in the world, the singer explained that she is willing to take the backlash to her support.

‘When I speak about things that are political, I double-, triple-check myself to be, “OK, this is about something that is way bigger than me, and it’s necessary – and that’s the only reason I’m posting it.” That is my only solace in doing that.’

‘It’s always going to be met with a backlash and other people’s opinions, so it’s a big decision. I balance it out, because ultimately I feel it’s for the greater good, so I’m willing to [take that hit],’ she told Radio Times.

Earlier this year, a viral song by Israeli rappers called for Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa – celebrities who were both vocal with their support – to be killed.

In the interview, Dua continued: ‘[Speaking up is] a natural inclination for me, given my background and heritage, and that my very existence is somewhat political – it’s not something that is out of the ordinary for me to be feeling close to,’ she said.

Although she has been outspoken in her support for Gaza, she revealed she doesn’t plan on being as vocal for political parties in the UK as the general election approaches.

‘Um… for me, over the past three or four years, I’ve kind of decided that standing behind a certain political party leader is probably not the route I want to take.

‘I’ve always supported Labour, so that’s where I’ll always stand, but I don’t think I’ll be publicly going for or against anyone… because politicians overall just have a way of letting you down.’

Ahead of Dua’s appearance at Glastonbury, rumours have been swirling that the singer is reportedly set to be joined on stage by an 80s pop icon, Cyndi Lauper.

A source told The Sun, that Dua was currently in talks with Cyndi and raring to make the performance as memorable as possible.

‘Dua is raring to go for Glastonbury and she can’t wait for people to hear her new music.

‘She knows the record will strike a chord with her fans but for the old school muso’s at the Farm, she wants a touch of nostalgia.
