Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson has teased the beloved British sitcom could return to our screens – but not as a TV series.
Sherrie, 73, played Joyce Temple-Savage for six series of the ITV show which ended in 2018 after more than a decade.
While Benidorm concluded six years ago, the comedy, about holidaymakers and staff at the Solana all-inclusive hotel in the Spanish resort, has found a second life on Netflix.
Due to the show’s continued success on the global streaming platform, Sherrie said would be keen to adapt it into a film – featuring all the previous colourful cast members, including the likes of Steve Pemberton and Johnny Vegas.
Reflecting on Benidorm’s enduring popularity, Sherrie told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: ‘Everybody in the world watches it now. I mean, everybody stops in the street and says we just want it back.’
Musing on whether Benidorm would comeback, she said: ‘It would make a film, I think, and you could bring people from everywhere, that have ever been on Benidorm, and their stories back together.

‘I think it would be brilliant, and it would be two-and-a-half hours as opposed to half-an-hour.
‘I think it would very funny. So that’s what I’m up for.’
The soap star added that creator Derren Litten ‘loves the idea’, adding: ‘It’s not for me to say. He’s a brilliant writer and I know he would write the most wonderful film.
‘The music makes me smile and, in these days we are living in now, you need it.’

A Benidorm film would follow in the footsteps of fellow British shows including Downton Abbey and The Inbetweeners, which have both made the leap to the big screen.
In 2018, Derren confirmed Benidorm had drawn to a close on X. He wrote: ‘Yes folks it’s true. After months of speculation, I can finally confirm Benidorm series 10 was the LAST EVER.’
Cast member Tony Maudsley, who played Kenneth Du Beke, described the news as ‘very sad’ and suggested Benidorm’s conclusion was unexpected.
He wrote: ‘We also thought we were on for another series but @itv took us by surprise and made a different call in the end.’

If Benidorm is turned into the film, it would not be the only British classic show to have been given a reboot with a twist.
In May, it was announced Gavin and Stacey would be returning for a one-off Christmas special this year.
The show It last aired in 2019 for a one-off festive episode which ended on a cliff-hanger with Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, getting down on one knee to propose to Smithy, played by James Corden.
Benidorm is available to stream on Netflix.
