Ricky Gervais really tickled fans after making an alcohol-themed quip just hours after Justin Timberlake was caught drink-driving.

The SexyBack singer, 43, was arrested just after midnight on June 18 while driving in The Hamptons, Metro.co.uk confirmed with Sag Harbor police. Justin was later released without bail over one count of driving while intoxicated.

The 10-time Grammy winner already suffered a humiliating blow after one account of the arrest claimed the cop who pulled him over for skipping a stop sign and swerving on the roads ‘didn’t recognise’ who he was.

A source told Page Six: ‘Justin said under his breath, “This is going to ruin the tour.” The cop replied, “What tour?” Justin said, “The world tour”.’

Now, controversial comedian Ricky, 62, has doubled down on the internet discourse by cracking his own joke about the whole situation.

‘[Justin Timberlake] Did you get the bottle of Dutch Barn Vodka I sent you the other day?’ he posted on X, tagging the artist in question.

The After Life star joined as a co-owner of Ellers Farm Distillery – the creators of Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka – in November 2023 and has since taken over ‘creative leadership in building global brand awareness and marketing efforts’.

Needless to say, he is taking the new gig very seriously.

The timely joke – which implied that Ricky’s hypothetical gift was responsible for Justin’s inebriated state – has left fans divided.

Many have supported the stand-up comedian – known for his dark humour – for poking fun at the Cry Me A River singer.

‘Soooo wrong it’s why we love you!’ @hardpassonshot said.

‘The best post on X today hands down,’ @craig13377337 proclaimed.

And @empath_angry was so impressed, he added: ‘England, you have no idea how much America would like to steal Ricky and claim him as our own.’

But for some the joke was a step too far.

‘Too soon? Nah…’ @ItsMillerC wrote. User @reverbgain echoed this, saying: ‘Way too soon.’

Meanwhile @jakuuire called the roast ‘brutal’ and @Johnmc42069 added: ‘Ricky woke up and chose violence’.

This is not the first time Justin has been in alcohol-related trouble.

In 2019, the former NSYNC star was forced to publicly apologise after he was spotted holding hands with his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright despite being married to actor Jessica Biel.

‘I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son,’ he wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post.

The father-of-two is currently on his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour with his next stop in Chicago on June 21.

Further details have also emerged about the DWI incident and police also released the singer’s mugshot.

After being stopped, MailOnline reported Justin was asked to take a sobriety test including a chemical breathalyzer analysis.

When asked to do so, the singer allegedly responded: ‘No, I’m not doing a chemical test. I refuse. I refuse.’

He now has a secondary court date scheduled for July 26, the same day he is set to perform in Krakow, Poland.
