Emily Atack and her boyfriend Alistair Garner have welcomed their first baby together.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, the actress announced: ‘We have a beautiful son. Barney James Garner. All my dreams have come true.’

The Inbetweeners star announced that she was expecting a child with scientist Alistair in December 2023.

Sharing a picture of her baby bump on Instagram, Emily, 34, revealed the news as she explained how hard pregnancy had hit her.

‘I’m delighted to share with you all that we’re having a baby!!’ she wrote. ‘I’ve never been so happy and utterly terrified at the same time. Please go easy on me.’

‘Every day is mixed with thrill, fear, joy, hysteria, topped off with a lot of vomiting – a bit like when you’ve just stepped off of the Oblivion at Alton towers on a hangover,’ she added.

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star finished the announcement by saying: ‘You’ve always stuck by me through the years, do stick around to see me enter my mum era. Christ. Let’s go.’

Emily and Alistair have known each other since childhood – he is the son of her late uncle, who married her aunt Jane Robbins in 1994.

Before striking up a relationship with Alistair, Emily had been very close to her uncle, posting an emotional tribute on her Instagram when he died.

It isn’t known how close she and Alistair were growing up but they had reportedly ‘grown close’ in the past year. While their relationship was ‘unexpected,’ a source told the Mail Online that their family are ‘delighted’ for them.

The pair kept things low-key until her pregnancy announcement threw their relationship into the spotlight.

Not much is known about Alistair, an aerospace and nuclear applications specialist, and lecturer at the University of Manchester where he also studied.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he is thought to be working as a Senior Consultant at Jacobs – a huge American scientific and technical consultancy company.

In May, Emily joked she’d been pregnant for ‘3,789 months’ as she showed off her baby bump in a blue dress, sporting a Preggs sash.

The TV star has been open about her pregnancy journey since that announcement, including fighting a constant battle with trolls making a series of critical comments online.

After a number of followers noticed that she always seemed to be cradling her baby bump in pictures, she became inundated with attacks from trolls, many of them bizarrely furious with how she was handling her pregnancy.

Sharing one of many comments on her Instagram stories, Emily wrote: ‘I find this so interesting. I, like so many women, get so many comments and questions like this (mainly from men) asking why I feel the need to always be cradling my baby bump, or touching it in some way.’

She continued: ‘It seems to really irritate some people. My only answer is that it’s my baby I’m physically and literally carrying. It’s one of the most natural instincts in the world. It’s a sign of affection and protection… and I’m probably hungry too.’

‘Hope this answers your pestiferous questions,’ she slapped back.
